Jonah Goldberg wrote a column for National Review before departing for his Christmas holiday in Hawaii. Was it a retelling of a long ago night before Christmas, when a tiny Jonah in footy PJs couldnt sleep for hope of a pony under the tree? No. It was a screed titled Conservative Facts. What set off Goldberg was a column in American Greatness by Chris Buskirk titled Death of The Weekly Standard Signals Rebirth of the Right.
Goldberg speckles his efforts with pop culture references to things like Star Trek. Example: in this column, he says Washington picked a wrong week to stop sniffing glue. I like a good Airplane! reference as much as the next fellow, for life is hard and humor, however looted from better humorists and however clumsily employed, softens that hardness. But Goldberg doesnt stick to joking. He bitches.
Buskirks column applauded the failure of the Weekly Standard and the dwindling influence of neoconservatism, which was featured in that publication. He, like many conservatives, sees neoconservatism as an ism that through titanic hubris and priggish moralism failed conservatism. They think it led America into unnecessary wars while failing to contain the growth of government, defend our borders, or promote traditional American beliefs and institutions. They believe that while America was trying to build democracy in foreign lands with our blood and treasure, America, at home, was being transformed into something unrecognizable.
In his column, Goldberg attacks Buskirk by parading and applauding the intellectuals who created neoconservatism. Buskirk is dumb because he doesnt address the works of each of these luminaries when criticizing neoconservatism. Its a bit like the Antifa loon who says you cant knock the Resistance till you read his latest manifesto, then after you do and say you still dont like them, he insists you...

I'm sure he does, but he's a huckster.
LOL - now, that's funny!
Congratulations, Goldberg. You were a big part of the death of National Review. May it join the Weakly Standard soon.
He was probably rocking on his heels in the corner, poking pins in a little Trump doll while singing Dreidel, Dreidel, Dreidel in a Golum voice
Jonah has a point: you do have to specify what you mean when you say "neoconservative." But he goes on with a long lecture that takes us far from what Buskirk was talking about.
After a while one gets tired of all these snarky guys piling on each other.
Cowbirds lay their eggs in the nests of other species. They are brood parasites.
The cowbird egg hatches first, and being larger the cowbird hatchling pushes the smaller true young of the parent bird out of the nest.
Neoconservatives are the Cowbirds of the conservative movement.
The first generation were self admitted fans of Leon Trotsky, one time commander of the Red Army. They eventually abandoned the glories of international socialism for a more easily digested global liberal democracy and joined the Democratic Party
When the Democratic Party started turning inward in the McGovern and Carter years they became dissatisfied, and decided to cast their lot with the Republicans and Ronald Reagan. They may not have liked Reagan or traditional conservatives, but they did like a tough foreign policy and thought that they could turn that to their own uses.
Like Cowbirds, once they were welcomed into the conservative nest they began shoving the actual heirs of conservatism out of the nest.
The chubby Jonah with his beard reminiscent of Trotsky and his comrades is just being true to his neoconservative bonafides.
He’s unhappy now because too many people have figured him out, as they have his comrade Bill Kristol.
If you're OK with a Democrat being appointed as a judge to the Federal courts, you're a Democrat.
That makes Jonah Goldberg a Democrat. It also makes Bret Stephens and Bill Kristol Democrats, and it makes a whole host of NeverTrumpers Democrats.
They can call themselves what they like, but after watching the host of 0bama judges and Clinton judges abuse jurisdiction and the personal power of the Federal bench, any REAL conservative or Republican would stand in the road and yell HALT! to the madness.
I won't even go into the conduct of Chief Jesters John Roberts and Supreme Corpse "justice" Ruth Bader Corpseburg and her medical fraud upon the court system and all honest American citizens.
FU neocons
Boy needs to lay off the carbs. I remember when he war jest a skinny little sprout - Trixie's little feller.

Cry baby Jonah thought Teh Weakly Substandard was somehow above basic laws of economics

Brilliant.
Morrow cut that twerp Goldberg a new one.
Heh, heh. Is Morrow calling Goldberg a turd?
I’ve always been what my kids called a PALEOCON.
PALEOCON and proud of it.
The list of so-called conservatives that should go F#CK THEMSELVES has grown quite extensive in my little notebook.
Just as a matter of interest, my kids also call me a BIBLE THUMPING REDNECK.
ANOTHER TITLE I AM PROUD OF.
“Red Neckerson”
