The Supreme Court began its term with the tumultuous confirmation of Justice Brett Kavanaugh. It was followed by a studied avoidance of drama on the high court bench especially anything that would divide the five conservatives and four liberals.

When they gather in private on Jan. 4 to consider new cases for arguments in April and into next term, the justices will confront a raft of high-profile appeals.
Abortion restrictions, workplace discrimination against LGBT people and partisan gerrymandering are on the agenda. Close behind are appeals from the Trump administration seeking to have the court allow it to end an Obama-era program that shields young immigrants from deportation and to put in place restrictive rules for transgender troops.

In recent weeks, three conservative justices accused the court of ducking its job of deciding important cases, especially when lower courts have disagreed on the outcome. Their criticism, written by Justice Clarence Thomas and joined by Justices Samuel Alito and Neil Gorsuch, came after a recent decision to avoid a case involving funding for Planned Parenthood.

But Lawrence Solum, a professor of constitutional law at Georgetown University's law school, said Roberts seems to have two reasons to limit the court's involvement in hot-button cases: his preference for taking small steps in the law and his concern for the court's reputation.

Roberts is a good example of why we best not hope for SCOTUS to take up any Second Amendment cases
We will need another appointment to get to a conservative court, maybe two.
The only reason to worry about your reputation is if you fail in integrity.
I read a report on Politico that John Roberts has been interfering in the Mueller investigation..?
That a foreign country prevailed on him to do something for them.
I’d have a hard time calling Roberts a ‘conservative’ after what he did to us with the shit sandwich called Obama care.
Roberts is an epileptic. He should never have been appointed.
While many epileptics eventually control their seizures, it is not a given. See the epilepsy foundation for further info: https://www.epilepsy.com/learn/about-epilepsy-basics/will-i-always-have-seizures

What a pant load...Obolacare, fag marriage, etc
Roberts is a traitor.
I find it interesting that the article never mentioned the imminent retirement/death of RBG...
Yes, when Buzzi croaks...
Below the Supreme Court there are currently 144 federal judiciary vacancies with 70 nominees pending for those vacancies. The Senate needs to SPEED UP their approval of the pending nominees. And President Trump needs to speed up vetting/selection of nominees for the 74 vacancies that dont yet have pending nominees.

And there are 18 KNOWN near-term future vacancies with only 3 nominees pending in the Senate so far. Processing for replacement of these pending vacancies also needs to be SPEEDED UP.

A conservative scotus justice does not usurp legislative powers and literally rewrite legislation to avoid ruling it unconstitutional.
Scoutus does not have that power. Roberts did it and the other branches did not correct the overreach or limit scotus’ power over the issue.
At least one appointment will be coming soon.
The Supreme Court is the greatest selling point for reelecting President Trump. Imagine a couple of Hillary Clinton-appointed Justices on the Court in place of Justices Gorsuch and Kavanaugh.
Its going to be very interesting when RBG assumes room temperature.
There will be a war when RBG dies if Repubs still have the senate and presidency. Kavenaugh will seem mild. My recommendation would be to move at lightning speed. Have that pick pre-decided. Move immediately in the Senate.
They’ll prop her up like El Cid before admitting anything. Her clerks will write her opinions.
I concur. Her replacement needs to happen fast. As fast as possible.
And, wasn’t it announced that she would retire in January, 2019 anyways?
That was disinformation.
RBG will serve until she dies.
“That was disinformation.
RBG will serve until she dies.”
Hmmm.... Well, now with the lung cancer, she just might die in a month or two...
