A DPS trooper shot and killed a man who was armed with a machete in Llano County Sunday morning, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety. DPS and the Llano Police Department responded to a barricaded person at 600 Bessemer Ave just after 6:15 a.m. The address DPS reported is near the intersection of East Young and Ford Street, however neighbors said the place the suspect ultimately barricaded himself is closer to East Tarrant Street. The man died at the scene... According to the Hill Country Scanner, when law enforcement arrived, the man with the machete barricaded himself in his trailer. Llano Police officers, Llano County Sheriff's deputies, and DPS troopers all surrounded the trailer, and began taking down planks from the gate in front of it to access the door.

The rest of the article is a must read.

Too bad the officer has to live with taking a life but the word on the street is he swung the machete at the officer.

There have been a couple of police reports from around there the past few days about a guy with a machete but don't know if this was the same.

It’s 65 miles, or so, NE of Austin. It’s kinda out in the middle of nowhere.

No-it is a rural town north of Austin-not exactly a high crime area-the name just means “plain”...

No. It’s a little nothing town in the center of the state and known as the Deer Capital of Texas. Very rural. You must own at least one pick up. Sadly, lots of drunks and meth heads.

“doesn’t everyone keep a machete handy, in their trailer?”

Be sure to get one with full tang blade. And not something from Walmart

A machete is one of the most useful tools there is. I have several made in South America which are just fine but the best is the old Ontario U.S. Surplus.

The only bad one I have ever had was one I bought at Walmart. It was made in China and was nothing more than s piece of sheet metal with a handle put on it and roughly sharpened.

LLano’s always got something going on - Fiddle Festival, World Rock-Stacking Championships, Chuckwagon Cookoff, Machete Maniac Day.

Machetes are no joke. Getting hacked to death with a machete is a horrible way to die. Even if you survive a machete attack you are likely to be disfigured and/or crippled. If you have a gun to protect yourself it should be used.

I keep a kukri handy. Personally I think it’s better than a machete.

I have family in Llano. Great BBQ. Nice, friendly folks too.
But...
Seems like there's always one bad apple in the bunch

A kukri is probably a decent weapon but for overall use a machete is better. I have owned several kukris including cheap and expensive versions from Cold Steel.

The blades are too thick and heavy for brush.

Back in my brush cutting days, I could slice through a 4inch tree limb with one easy swing. A sharp machete is very dangerous tool. Don’t forget that you can throw them too.

It could easily remove one’s head, or arm.
