House Democrats ready strategy to reopen government, deny Trump wall money
Washington Post ^ | 12/31/2018 | By Erica Werner and Seung Min Kim

Democrats have settled on a strategy for attempting to reopen the government when they take control of the House on Thursday, aimed at ending the partial shutdown quickly — but denying President Trump the new money he wants for a border wall.

Democrats plan to pass a stopgap spending bill to fund the Homeland Security Department through Feb. 8. The bill would extend the existing $1.3 billion spending level on border fencing and other security measures, far short of the $5 billion Trump has sought to build new walls along the U.S.-Mexico border.

The GOP-controlled Senate passed a similar stopgap measure earlier this month, but Trump subsequently rejected it. It’s unclear how the Senate would respond if presented with the plan again.

Under Democrats’ plan, the House would also pass a package of six other spending bills to fund an array of federal agencies that have been shuttered since Dec. 22, including the Interior, Agriculture, Commerce and Justice Departments. Hundreds of thousands of workers at those agencies and others are home on furlough, facing the possibility of missing paychecks depending on how long the shutdown lasts.

Those six spending bills would be passed through Sept. 30, the end of the fiscal year, at levels already embraced on a bipartisan basis in the Senate — an approach aimed at pressuring the Senate to go along.

The bills to reopen government will be among the first votes cast by Democrats when they take control of the House and open the 116th Congress. The legislation was expected to be made public later Monday. Details were confirmed by two House Democratic aides speaking on condition of anonymity ahead of a formal announcement.

Turtle will stand with Nancy and pass it. He won't cross the Chamber of Commerce, the drug cartels and the global bankers.

"Factory made guns might have secret markings."

What would you care to wager that the Feds have tens of thousands of AKs rounded up from Iraq, sitting in a warehouse, somewhere, and millions of rounds of crated 7.62×39mm...

If that’s the case let the RATS and RINOS put their name on a bill to override a veto to secure our borders. Many will lose their seat the next time up for re-election.

The avalanche of illegals entering the country and voting would probably offset any negative reaction by the "current" voters.

If the DEMs got the GOP in the Senate to go along and they ended up overriding a Trump veto (assuming he did so), anything short of a mass protest in DC means the end of our country. We're done if the wall is basically axed in the House and the Senate against a Trump veto.

My guess is under such a scenario, little would be done on our side. Would truly be a sad day, and honestly, I can see it happening.

Actually, Trump really needs to hold his ground here.

Three Immediate Reasons Why Trump Must Hold His Ground:

#1. Trump cannot lose his base support, period. If he does, this will result in lower poll numbers, and a Senate more willing to throw him out, or neutralize Trumps executive authority.

#2. In time, the partial shutdown will result in much more pressure on the Uniparty Demon Hoard to compromise their position.

#3. Impeaching Trump is much much harder, when they need his signature on the annual budget, and this fight is sucking the oxygen away from impeachment. Once the left-wing global socialist establishment Uniparty gets their budget, then they will begin to focus on crushing the entire White House staff, and impeachment.

Correction -

#2. In time, the partial shutdown will result in much more pressure on the Uniparty Demon “Horde” to compromise their position.

What government shutdown?

I visit the post office and the VA today and they were both open all day. I suppose they are considered "essential" services.

If it's only "non-essential " services that are closed, maybe we don't need those services by definition.

I’d rather read a headline like “Trump ready to open criminal investigations on House democrat leadership”... but so far, nada...

Remember when Republicans took the House in 2010 and passed everything Obama wanted because they didn’t have the Senate or Presidency?

Start getting rid of whole departments. One a week should do it.

Decertify the unions and then fire anyone that needs it. Cancel their pensions.

"We will soon realize how big, inefficient and useless a lot of Federal employees are ( i.e., we don’t need them )."

This is what many of the proponents of big gov fear.

I imagine a veto wouldn’t crack their frozen hearts; they’ll just use that to blame Trump for the shutdown. Technically true, but not in reality. It’s the dems who are refusing to fund the wall, which was voted to be built YEARS ago. Trump’s trying to protect us AND fulfill his campaign promises. The democrats are radically opposed to both.
