The sad thing about World War I, was that you had Christian England and France, going to war against Christian Germany. This war destroyed Christianity in Europe. So many men became disillusioned by supposedly "Christian" countries killing each other on such a mass scale, that Russia turned to Atheistic Communism, France and England turned to Humanism, and Germany and Italy turned to pre-Christian Roman and Teutonic paganism.

by World War II, America was fighting with a skeptical England and a Godless USSR, against a Paganistic Nazi Germany and the Shinto of Imperial Japan.

Needless to say, you'd never see a Christmas truce between American and British troops, and ISIS or al-Queda.
