Democratic senators quiz judicial nominee over membership in men's Catholic charitable group
Senate Democrats are facing renewed charges of anti-Catholic discrimination after quizzing a federal judicial nominee about his membership in the Knights of Columbus.
Democratic Sens. Kamala Harris and Mazie Hirono were accused of religious profiling after they zeroed in on judicial nominee Brian Bueschers membership in the 137-year-old fraternal Catholic charitable organization earlier this month in written questions.
The Knights of Columbus has taken a number of extreme positions, said Ms. Hirono, Hawaii Democrat, citing the groups opposition to same-sex marriage. If confirmed, do you intend to end your membership with this organization to avoid any appearance of bias?
Ms. Harris asked Mr. Buescher, who became a member 25 years ago as a teenager, Were you aware that the Knights of Columbus opposed a womans right to choose when you joined the organization?
Mr. Buescher, who said he would abide by the Code of Conduct for U.S. Judges regarding his affiliations, said his participation has centered on charitable and community events in local Catholic parishes.
I do not recall if I was aware whether the Knights of Columbus had taken a position on the abortion issue when I joined at the age of eighteen, he replied.
The line of questioning prompted a torrent of criticism from Catholics, conservatives and religious-freedom advocates, who accused Democrats of imposing a religious litmus test on judicial nominees.
Senators Harris and Hirono are playing a game: They are engaged in selective religious profiling and sexism, said Catholic League President Bill Donohue.
Ken Blackwell, former U.S. ambassador to the U.N. Commission on Human Rights, urged Democrats to end this tactic of engaging in religious discrimination to destroy people nominated for public office.

The Senators and Representatives before mentioned, and the Members of the several State Legislatures, and all executive and judicial Officers, both of the United States and of the several States, shall be bound by Oath or Affirmation, to support this Constitution; but no religious Test shall ever be required as a Qualification to any Office or public Trust under the United States.
True, but the real problem is their extreme stupidity, something they will never acknowledge.
Dear Senators Harris and Hirono, were you aware that the Democrat Party was an extremist organization before you joined?
Oh, that......that's "only" the Constitution.
Sen Maisie's already told us ......Democrats are too smart for a silly old thing like the Constitution.
And Sen Kamala did the only thing she's really good at.....putting her vagina in the service of her country.
The Knights of Columbus has taken a number of extreme positions,
Being against fags and abortion is not extreme.
The ignorance of Harris and Hirono make them ineligible to serve under the U.S. Constitution. They both need to be recalled. Article VI says, “...no religious Test shall ever be required as a Qualification to any Office or public Trust under the United States.”
Amen! It’s not extreme in the least.
If confirmed, do you intend to end your membership with this organization to avoid any appearance of bias?
So all judges should never be allowed to go to church then.
More like “blatantly demonstrated the depths of their anti-Catholic bias.”
Oh, and KC has about 1.8 million or so members around the world. That’s a lot of ‘extremists’ to create at one fell swoop.
The KKK were (are) anti-Catholic bigots, among other things.
As well as the domestic terrorist arm of the Democrat party.
I doubt that these two would ever tear up their democrat card so as not to present the appearance of approving the KKK’s extreme positions.
As long as it was mere Catholics and not protected class moose limbs it’s all good.
For Harris to have been the former CA Attorney General she’s dumber than the proverbial box of rocks.
Homo marriage and abortion are thought of as fundamental rights by Democrats. Anyone who opposes them are on the right side of God, but the wrong side of them.
Catholic = anti-abortion= BAD
Muslim = anti-gay= GOOD
I pray that their splintering society in such nonsensical groups to divide and conquers wakes up the middle class.
The Reps should remind these poor excuses for human beings that they follow the Catholic traditions and positions which have not changed for ever...It is the Communists’ positions that have become extreme...
Democrat party has always been full of bigots.
No membership and attendence at UCU, Episcopal, Unitarian, and other “acceptable” denominations is just fine.
Oh and don’t forget no such questions will be asked of a Muslim. One question that will never be asked, “Should Shari Law be part of American Law.”
