Exactly, Diana. You do as you please, and give others the freedom to do the same.

I don’t think that her idea of using the brown paper as a Christmas craft project is a bad one. It’s not a new one, either. In fact I think my sons and I made “treat bags” out of small brown paper bags that we decorated to give cookies as gifts, years ago. A bag or wrapping paper decorated by a child can be a charming part of a gift for grandparents, for example.

What IS objectionable is that she wants to DICTATE that other people do this. That is NOT OK.

And, FWIW, I don’t know that using brown paper bags has much, if any, positive impact on “the environment.” I’m a great “re-user” of things like shopping bags, shipping envelopes, boxes, etc but the “green” I’m concerned with is in my wallet.

Exactly. And never forget that Socialists LOVE to spend our money well before they spend any of their own. (If ever, LOL!)
