GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - A West Michigan native who recently moved to Colorado said she and her husband got a firsthand look at the effects of the government shutdown.
Leeann Sadler, who is originally from Grand Rapids, planned to visit several national parks with her husband. The government shutdown is taking a toll on those plans.
Sadler told 24 Hour News over FaceTime that she and her husband planned their trip six months ago.
"We didn't know that the governrment shutdown would affect the national parks like this because there is that notion that a federal shutdown doesn't really affect us in any way," Sadler said.
Sadler and her husband were in Arizona on Sunday. It was day two of their 10-day excursion.
"It's just really disappointing to see kids get really excited for national parks and to go on hikes and be outside and have them look at locked gates. That was really disappointing to see families today."
Sadler and her husband already pre-paid for their upcoming campsites.
However, she said that some of the employees in charge of campsite reservations are off the job until further notice.
They're just hoping things are figured out before Jan. 1.

They should stop off at some of the Indian villages in the area and complain.
Are the reindeer rides at Yellowstone still open? If not, we need to rearrange our national priorities and open the borders to about 7 billion invaders so vacations aren’t spoiled.
Smart enough to get a drivers license, but not smart enough to use the internet to find out the status of their destinations. I wonder how the reporter found them?
They even bought new, matching hats for the trip! That must have added to their pique.
Yeah, they are idiots just looking for some media face time.
Grand Canyon, Zion, other popular parks remain partly operational despite shutdown
Are tar balls and issue on Padre?
And...this is a perfect example of the younger generation’s inability to adapt and overcome.
This couple are travel pro’s. The while story stinks of self publicity.

They look like two DIM/LIB nitwits. Of all the things to complain about... By the way, there are millions of acres of public lands, state parks and so forth to get lost in out here. Toughen-up, snowflakes.
We went to Zion a couple of years ago in the wife’s van. I think if I had come up on a locked gate it would have been a bit of an issue. Getting locked inside of that hot, dry place with two kids.
Oh wait - these folks were on the outside of the gate?
Go to Sleeping Bear Dunes and the UP.
Merry CHRISTmas to all including this couple who look like Indy Jones fans. Hope the standoff is resolved soon for us and them.

Right...they probably rent a hotel room just to pee every few hundred miles.
Holland, Michigan is a nice visit ..nearby.
Little early for tulip time doncha think?
Perhaps. Good point. Yes. But they sell very good blueberries nearby too.
They have their just-so carefully scripted talking points down though, so there’s that.
Gubbmint shuts down? Not my problem, not my clowns, not my circus. F ‘em. They are public lands, and belong to the people.
What are they gonna do, turn off the sunsets and roll up the waterfalls?
But the good news is that the federal employees that run the park will get back pay once the parks reopen. (Back pay for within.) Yeah!
:) Merry Christmas!
Remember when Obie locked the WWII vets out at Christmas?
Some republicans cut the zip ties holding the barricades together that the Dems spent money on, and the old guys rolled on..
Trump is not that enemy.
