Open ended missions cost too much in blood and treasure. If you don’t know how you’re going to get out, you shouldn’t be there.
Its also worth looking at who is benefitting from these adventures. People pushing for extended commitments usually have a self-interested reason for doing so.
If you don't know how your going to WIN, you should't be there. If you don't know what WIN means, you shouldn't have gone in the first place.
