Trump shutdown moves leaves GOP senators in disbelief

GOP senators emerged from the closed-door meeting in visible disbelief that President Trump is refusing to sign a seven-week stopgap measure to fund the government that cleared the chamber by a voice vote less than 24 hours ago.

Senate GOP leadership appeared confident on Wednesday that Trump would sign the stopgap, which will fund approximately 25 percent of the government, as long as they kept poison pill policy riders out of it.

But Trump, under fire from conservative pundits and lawmakers, reversed course Thursday.

“You're ruining my life,” GOP Sen. Susan Collins (Maine) joked to The Hill when told about the decision. “No-I don’t think the votes are [there], ugh, we can’t have a government shutdown, period,” she said. “It’s never good. How many times do we have to learn that?”

They’ll get their money during the shut down, but will get it when the shut down is over.

Co-equal is definitely BS!

That is why he is called the Chief Executive.

He cannot cast their votes, but he definitely can make them vote.

If he caves on this, Lynch pin issue of his campaign he's through, the country as it has existed since its founding is over, and President Trump knows it.

This is the hill, THE ONE ISSUE you stand on and fight for no matter what the cost, or it's over.

Do you think that both Republicans and Democrats will ever understand that Trump was no elected to play nice and continue things as is?

They just don’t seem to get it.

I like the way Trump is pushing for what he has promised.

Article II, section 3, clause 3. Exercised 27 times in the past, last in 1948 by Truman. Hasn’t been needed since mainly because Congress is nearly always in session since then. Personally I think many Congresscritters would benefit from being drug out of bed at 5am by US Marshalls. It would help them know how the little guys feel. Meanwhile, with Congress unvacationing, non-essential members of the Justice department should be on unpaid leave. Certainly none there are less essential than team Mueller. Don’t let the RATs get them back without a funded Wall. Congress and courts can’t stop this because Trump IS president, regardless of their delusions to the contrary. I don’t know that Trump can recall their staff, but then the staff are’t needed to fund the wall

You bet if any one of these senators had a family member raped or murdered by these invaders they would be on top of this. It doesn’t effect them at all in their estate on the hill gated community

Communists never earn an honest dollar on their own.

Britain and Russia could not have successfully waged war against Germany without American Lend-Lease.

Russia alone got many thousands of planes, tanks, and trucks.

How many did we get from them? When did they ever pay us back?

What an idiot. RINO A-holes like her don’t get it. Americans don’t give a crap if the government “shuts down”.

They only care what the fake news media says. Useless human scum.
