Acting Attorney General Matthew Whitaker has been advised by Justice Department ethics officials that he does not need to recuse himself from overseeing the special counsels Russia probe.
Thats according to a person familiar with the matter and not authorized to discuss it publicly who spoke to The Associated Press on Thursday on condition of anonymity.
Members of Congress have raised concerns about Whitakers past criticism of special counsel Robert Muellers investigation.

F members of congress. Congress, the opposite of Progress.
So he is not allowed to discuss it publicly but allowed to leak to the media?
Translation: he will let it go on and on and on.
Doesn’t seem to be the message AP is trying to broadcast; more like “oh noes, he doesn’t have to recuse so he’s going to put the brakes on it”.
If the DOJ “ethics” department likes him, you gotta be suspicious. Furthermore, if he is confirmed by The Senate then we can be damn sure he is swamp/Mueller friendly.
Duh.
Duh!
SCREW the Trump-side recusals!!
Mueller should be the one recusing!
Didn’t he go to “RUSSIA!” to deliver uranium for HILLARY CLINTON???
Why is NOBODY on the Trump team saying this???

Last month, when President Donald Trump was asked by The New York Times if special counsel Robert Mueller would be crossing a line if he started investigating the finances of Trump and his family, the President said, “I think that’s a violation. Look, this is about Russia.” The President is absolutely correct. Mueller has come up to a red line in the Russia 2016 election-meddling investigation that he is dangerously close to crossing.
According to a CNN article, Mueller’s investigators could be looking into financial records relating to the Trump Organization that are unrelated to the 2016 election. According to these reports, “sources described an investigation that has widened to focus on possible financial crimes, some unconnected to the 2016 election.” The piece goes on to cite law enforcement sources who say non-Russia-related leads that “involve Trump associates” are being referred to the special counsel “to encourage subjects of the investigation to cooperate.”
This information is deeply concerning to me. It does not take a lawyer or even a former federal prosecutor like myself to conclude that investigating Donald Trump’s finances or his family’s finances falls completely outside of the realm of his 2016 campaign and allegations that the campaign coordinated with the Russian government or anyone else. That goes beyond the scope of the appointment of the special counsel.

Remember, this is the anonymous source saying this.
When you take the oath as AG you already say you are going to do what is best for the country. That would be my explanation to not recuse. I would just broken record technique that in a congress hearing when questioned.
Can we now hope that he is free to be more active in the oversight of the SC? He can start by firing RR and instructing Mueller to confine his investigation to his mandate of Russian interference in the election only. Then he can instruct the SDNY that their definition of campaign finance violations is incorrect. And, finally, he can appoint a SC to investigate HRC for corruption as SOS and her role in the ongoing coup against Trump and all of those at DOJ/FBI who were/are involved.

Well, it is acting backwards to the interests of our nation.
LOL, works for me.
I wonder how many people think of that archaic lower case “s”.
I have in the last week.
Did the DoJ ethics officials say Rosenstein didn’t have to recuse himself? I think the ethics officials should recuse themselves from these judgments.
