Don’t take this the wrong way, but I’m just wondering how long does someone need to be here, until they’re no longer considered a newbie, or not a part of “the club”? Again, I’m not trying to offend you, but I often read posts in which FReepers denigrate other FReepers who haven’t been here an apparently sufficient amount of time to be considered a valid part of the group. You know, kind of like the fifth grade. I’m not saying that’s what you’re doing by mentioning your 11 years, to my 2 years; I’m sure you’re speaking about what you’ve observed during your 11 years, but it just raised those questions in my mind. I, myself, have occasionally questioned a poster’s actual age, when they make a comment that sounds rather sophomoric, knowing that with age, comes (usually) increased wisdom. But there are some, who seem to take the attitude that any perceived challenge to their opinions by a newer FReeper, is an affront by someone who has no right to post a comment, disagreeing to something they’ve posted. Just wondering.

Just ignore people that call you noob———some are obsessed with sign up date.
The only ones I have ever questioned is people who have been here 2/3 weeks and just post threads in order to pimp their blog.
There are no rules on sign up date.
.
Depends on who you're talking to. To the class of '98, nearly everyone else is a newbie, though most of them are too settled into their seniority to ever pull rank on anyone.
I've been here eleven and a half years. I don't feel like that gives me any sort of special status, but I do feel that it means I've earned my place in the community, and that I should be granted just a tad more consideration than someone who only signed up recently.
In my experience, a person sheds the 'newbie' tag as they become known to the regulars. That just takes as long as it takes.
11 years.
Yea. Ima newbie
I have no idea. I’m still considered a noobie ;)
My point was that you’ve supposedly been here two years and find the language/profanity upsetting while I’ve been here way longer and find that minor in the scheme of things. So it’s not new or even upsetting to me while other things are whereas they may not be to you.
You didn’t offend me.
I find online/SM to be sophomoric but unfortunately real life mirrors that now, more so.
It’s common on here and I assume other message boards, at least those I frequent/read, to question or be suspicious of newcomers. The term troll gets bandied about quite a bit. In my years posting online (2002?) on and off, I learned not to care about much of it except for the very few connections I’ve made.
The one thing I’ll say about FR is no matter what, you won’t be stalked or harassed (but yeah, hazed probably, lol). It’s safe here.

Haha same with real life...no. But I’m sure you already know that :)
