I grew up reading Boy’s Life and my heart swelled with the tales of Scouts performing life saving feats based on their Scout principles and training.
I always looked upon the Scouts as a para-military organization which prepared young men for eventual military service. The Morse code and silent hand signals were part of the Scout Handbook when I joined.
This viewpoint will be missed if it is lost, and Churches are not going to implement this. (Nor sadly is a left leaning organization like the Sierra Club.) There is no doubt that our society has been altered for the worst by these changes, but our generation does still remember.
Our son is also an Eagle Scout, and proud, but he has always craved the kind of acceptance that the left provides to their community. I hope his Scouting background will always provide some stability in the world he will need to endure.
