My son got his Eagle Scout in 2016. He had a great Scoutmaster and great group of young men in the troop. A lot of camping, woodcraft, survival skills, and community service, community service, community service. You have a great Scoutmaster, you’re going to have a great troop kept on task. I feel very lucky he had such a great experience and can hold onto that the rest of his life. The Scoutmaster will make or break the troop.
This is precisely the type of "organization" that doesn't need a national bureaucracy. In fact, it doesn't need a national organization at all. The whole thing should be run at the troop level -- and each troop should call themselves whatever the hell they want.
Agree wholeheartedly. My son got his Eagle in 2007. He was only one of 10 young men who achieved that in his troop. A great group of kids. One went on to graduate from the AF Academy, another is a captain in the US Army, yet another is a 2nd Lt. in the US Army Rangers. Quite a group.
