Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey has appointed fellow Republican Rep. Martha McSally to the Senate, he announced Tuesday, picking a favorite of GOP leaders to fill the seat John McCain held for decades.
McSally, who lost a close race for Arizonas other Senate seat this year, will succeed Sen. Jon Kyl (R). Kyl will step down at the end of the year following a brief time in McCains seat after McCains death in August.
With her experience and long record of service, Martha is uniquely qualified to step up and fight for Arizonas interests in the U.S. Senate. I thank her for taking on this significant responsibility, Ducey said in a statement.
McSally is expected to run for the seat in a 2020 special election, setting the stage for a potential marquee contest in a battleground state. The seat will also be on the ballot in 2022.

That’s true, if she is confirmed prior to the innaugurations in January, she becomes the Sr Senatory from AZ...with a JR Senator she just lost to.... Its hard to see a calculus where the delegation from AZ will ever put AZ first.. and not just petty squabble between each other....
But what do I know about human nature?
I guess he could've made a worse choice, still, given the recent state political history of McLame, Flake, Kristen Enema, you have to wonder if sunstroke or lunacy affect the entire population of the state.
Why McSally? We need someone who can win.
Severely under perform all the other statewide GOP candidates.
Finding out you are appointed to a Senate seat.
PRICELESS!!
I salute her service just like anyone who was in the military.
But, that has nothing to do with how they are politically. McCain was in the military. Kerry, Algore etc.
Smoke filled backroom insiders dealing.
Good! She’s as conservative as we will ever expect to see from Arizona and more Republicans voted for her to become Senator than any other Republican. Twice.
As for how she lost to Enema, ask the Democrats. Same ones who voted for McTurd.
Sinema won because Maricopa County has a hard core Leftist as its Country Recorder. Ballot-harvesting (illegal), opening voting centers [in Dem areas] the weekend before the election (illegal), and counting mail-in votes when the signatures dont match (illegal) are the reasons that Sinema won. I was pretty worried when Pelousi was cocksure the Dems would take the House.....and now we know why she was cocksure. Dem voter fraud, all across the USA. Sinema was recently (within the last decade) an outspoken Communist, but you didnt see THAT in the ads against her.
Bummer.
She lost to the ISIS/Taliban loving, Taco Bell chihuahua but gets a Senate seat anyway? What the...
The Cheap Labor Express still controls the AZ GOP.
It was easy to concede when she was going to get the job anyway.
I really don’t get the hate on this. Everyone loved her before, but now because she lost she’s a bad choice?
Good candidates can still lose elections, especially in this environment. I don’t blame her.
Sinema was excellent at hiding who she was, and no matter what McSally did, it just didn’t get through.
I love this since it really sticks it to the Democrats. Ultimately, she will be very hard to beat next time because of incumbancy.
I thought I read the other day that the McCain’s did not care for McSally?
I’ve heard that McSally is a RINO, which should’ve been right down McLame’s alley, but toward the end, I don’t think the brain damaged McLame cared for anyone. He [wrongfully] thought so highly of himself that no one could measure up.
So the voters send a clear message: we don’t want her and they put her in a month later. Democracy alive and well in Arizona
Not that red. There are substantial pockets of blue in the state.
Man, what a lazy decision.
That chick totally sucks.
Another seat AZ will lose in 2020. Trump is gonna have to campaign here.
