FROM WIKIPEDIA: The racial makeup of the city from the 2000 Census was 77.63% White,[8] 0.37% African American, 0.38% Native American, 1.63% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 18.64% from other races, and 2.34% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 81.03% of the population. (Note: This is confusing until you recognize Hispanics are classified as "White")
In this context, one can understand why they "don't worry about immigrants" in Mission, TX. The town business is likely conducted in Spanish, schools are taught in Spanish, etc. They are likely in favor of unlimited illegal immigration and open borders.
Been there. No school. Building is gutted and being rebuilt by private concerns/fuinding.
Students are bussed 40 miles to Presidio.
I spend a fair amount of time in Mission TX. It is majority hispanic, but the residents there are extremely concerned with crime and illegal immigration. It is a nice town EXCEPT for these problems. There are a few people there concerned about birds and butterflies - but everyone there deals with crime rates that are amazingly high because of being near the border. Plus, they are acutely aware of how violent and dangerous the Mexican drug cartels are - and some of that spills across the border.
