(SPRINGFIELD, Mo.) A Missouri poacher has been ordered to repeatedly watch the movie Bambi as part of his sentence for illegally killing hundreds of deer.
The Springfield News-Leader reports that David Berry Jr. was ordered to watch the Disney classic at least once a month during his year-long jail sentence in what conservation agents are calling one of the largest deer poaching cases in state history.

Prolly stopped million$$$ of car insurance claims...
I never heard of such a sentence. I didn’t realize it was legal to do so. Viewing that movie may have some effect, but not everybody experiences empathy the same way. Some folks do not experience empathy or compassion for animals at all. That’s just how they are made. They may just turn the volume down if allowed, or take a nap while sitting up.
Was he killing the deer for fun, or was he stocking his freezer and those of friends and relatives with venison and their closets with buckskin?
Odd punishment.

Rats with hooves.
Because there’s such a shortage of deer. /SARCsarcsarcsarc
Sounds like a Seinfeld episode.
Glad they got this jack wagon and his crew. He was trophy poaching. Cut off the heads and left the bodies to rot. I am a trophy hunter and like some cuts of venison. So I keep what I want and pay for the processing for the balance of the deer I don’t eat to go the local food bank.
Should be heading to the woods this afternoon but I am taking a break and resting at the office for a day.
Kind of a Mitthead, then.
Still good for the auto insurance industry.
I agree that 120 days is light. I assume he is also not permitted to have firearms or hunt ever again. I would like to see him locked in a 10x10 room with a 230lb buck for 24 hours during November, then go to prison, if he survives.
Still, I want to know the details of his poaching methods. How and where did he kill “hundreds” of deer that were suitable for taxidermy and sale? I assume he must have been baiting them or something. But hundreds of deer is a lot of deer. That’s a lot of wasted venison.
Or,
Clockwork Orange?
HUGE sport around here spotlight hunting. We hear gunshots all night long while hunting raccoons in southern Missouri. Weekends are really bad, folks feed their family deer meat all year long doing this. These guys just took horns. Deer hunting to much work hauling deer out of woods. Our deer numbers are HUGE..rats with antlers.... pests
Just makes me hungry.
Was he or someone eating them? If so who cares, I know I don’t.
I completely agree with the sentence as long as he is sitting in a prison cell while viewing them 24x7x365x5 to 10.
Here’s the classic version:
When searching for it, I was amazed to learn that making Bambi vs: Godzilla movies is now a cottage industry. There are lots of them
Exactly.
I was out 3-4 times this season and only saw one deer. Couldn’t get a good shot.
What was weird was that I only heard one or two other shots in an area that usually has a decent harvest.
Scum like this prevent others from success and also screw up the herd count. If he’s taking hundreds of deer from a certain area, it’s likely more cull than the herd can handle, especially if, as I assume he’s only taking buck.
Yes. With glassies propped open, after a dozen or so viewings, he’ll be cured alright....
