Even the NYT and CNN doubted the dossier allegation. That's why they didn't run with the story in 2016 even after their CIA/FBI sources gave it to them.
This is where the whole story starts to fall apart. The DOJ is claiming that all kinds of information they have in their possession is "classified" because they do not want to reveal sources and methods of intelligence-gathering. They make it sound like these documents have references to obscure CIA personnel and secret surveillance techniques that must be protected.
What they're really trying to hide is the "method" of using major U.S. news media outlets as CIA assets to disseminate information that is used to justify covert surveillance of U.S. citizens.
Their sources include unlawful lookups into the NSA databases, unmasking of names without reason, and using the statements known partisans.
Their methods including sending one set of assets to their target to “feed” them knowingly false information, then sending other assets to try to solicit that false information (e.g. frame the target) so they could use the testimony of the 2nd assets in their filings; the sending overtly biased informants like Steele to 3rd parties to give the appearance of arms length; and then using that information to file for wiretap warrants with a “2-hop” rule that allows them to tap the coms of not just their target but everyone the target contacts and everyone the 3rd party contacts! Thus a tap on Papadopoulis is the functional equivalent of a tap on Trump himself. Which is why Trump bailed out of the lavish Trump Tower and moved his transition team to New Jersey when he was warned by NSA Director Admiral Rogers.
Their reasons include attempts to influence the election and install their preferred candidate as POTUS, destabilize and derail the Trump presidency, impeachment of Trump, imprison his supporters, blackmail, to serve as a warning against anyone who would dare upset the establishment, protect their own power, and cover-up their own crimes.
Since we all know their sources and methods and reasons there is no reason to keep all this information classified. They want to keep it classified to hide their own criminality. Thus, they appointed Mueller to deflect from their actions and mop-up/sweep under their crimes and keep pressure on Trump instead of on themselves. They bleachbit their servers and refuse outside investigations, they smash their phones, they ignore Congressional subpoenas, they delete text messages, they “lose” all email back-ups conveniently just those pertaining to the issues at hand etc. It is illegal to classify a document for the reason of hiding crimes and malfeasance, thus they continue to say “we must protect our (already publicly known) sources and methods”. When it all comes out hell should be paid to the conspirators.
It took 2 years and 2 months from the Watergate ‘burglary’ to the Nixon Resignation. But then you had fewer tools to use to confuse he public, had fewer conspirators to follow, and you had people in high places who were more patriotic to the country than to their own party and power. And back then you had a patriotic media, not a media echo chamber that refuses to investigate fully any controversy that would undermine their agenda.
Trump must go on the offensive. He has the authority to order the release of documents - a few months ago he backed off on the request of UK and Australia, so he said. He can’t hold back much longer. And he has to go on a massive offensive onslaught to force the media to cover it and overcome the inherent bias.
