On Sunday, Dec. 9, Julian von Abele, CC ’21, a sophomore in the physics department, made a series of claims perpetuating white male supremacy, especially in science, and further harassed a group of primarily Black women on campus. This incident of racism that occurred on campus showed that science and physics academia blatantly and covertly attacks minorities—and their ability to be a part of the field. His rhetoric further reflected an existing pattern in science academia...
A group of undergraduates studying physics at Columbia felt particularly troubled that online comments in forums defending von Abele’s rant used his work in physics as a smokescreen—painting his bigotry as an inflammatory outburst of a brilliant mind. Following the video’s release, members of the undergraduate physics community at Columbia and Barnard decided that it was important to stand against the supremacist's hateful remarks—to debunk and dismantle them from the standpoint of scientists.
Columbia as an institution is no stranger to bigotry, sexism, and institutional racism. While von Abele’s words were violent and destructive on their own, they by no means marked an isolated incident, but rather remind us that the neglect of minorities is normalized in the department and the school. The culture of silence that myself and my peers have felt around similar incidents is a subsequent act of neglect, and a direct response of disciplinary and institutional action from the administration should be in order.
Though often privileged as a meritocracy, physics is as susceptible to intolerance, discrimination, and inequality as any other field. Scientists are human and thus are not without bias. These biases dictate the way science is done and who gets to do it. The abstract and formal nature of physics does not represent the absence of outside cultural influence but a distinctive manifestation of it.

The left is ultimately anti- science. The whole point is to ignore human nature and reality. They have to destroy the history of Western Civilization.
I love white people. I’m white and I think white people are often extremely beautiful, intelligent and civilized.
Of course there are those exceptions, but that is true in all types.
When I grew up by and large our communities were mostly white where I lived and crime was low. Children were brought up to be respectful and have a love for their country and their families. We looked forward to going to college and making something of ourselves and all that great music we loved, much of it was white people. The hippies were mostly white and were not bad people although that is when the liberals moved in and started on their big tirade to get things to change to the crap we see now.
Julian Abele was outed for saying what used to be common sense but is now deemed culfural appropriation.
Telling the truth is subversive these days.

Von Abele says in the video, “we invented the modern world. We saved billions of people from starvation. We built modern civilization.” An increasingly irate and loud von Abele then said, while swinging his arms around, “The white people are the best thing to ever happen to the world.”
His voice getting hoarse and while jumping in the air, von Abele then yelled, “I love myself and I love white people. F*ck yeah white people. F*ck yeah white men. We’re white men, we did everything. I don’t hate other people, I just love white men, I love white men.”

Von Abel should simply come out of the closet, and all will be forgiven.

Results matter. History matters. Ergo, white men matter.
There are entire continents that have contributed next to nothing to modern human progress. There are other continents that can only imitate and copy Europe and North America. Show me a Newton or Einstein of color.
They say history starts anew every day for progressives as they ignore history that is inconvenient to their narrative and invent history that favors them.

By itself, science is neutral. But there are a lot of nonwhites today who recognize how science has benefited them. These nonwhites are able to reap the benefits of science without having had to undertake the research efforts and development costs that our white ancestors had to undertake. White scientific development involved much opposition and false starts.
In physics, you either get your math right, or you don’t. And if your math isn’t right, it doesn’t matter what your color or sex or orientation is, you are worthless as a physicist.
Same deal with engineering (as certain bridge designers in Florida demonstrated) and a bunch of other professions.
I defy ANY of them to successfully complete a Bachelor of Science degree in Physics.
