This is the weekly article on how not enough women are going into STEM fields and how underrepresented women are in the AI field. This one has an interesting twist, though -- AI systems built by men are sexist. If you ask about "engineer," you get masculine pronouns. If you ask about "nurses," you get feminine pronouns.
Maybe that is serious stuff, but the article goes off in the weeds about the acronym of the "Neural Information Processing Systems" annual conference - "NIPS." It's been used for decades, but in 2018, it suddenly offends enough of the perpetually-offended that it had to be changed (one would that Japanese conference-attendees would be more put-off by the conference name than women).
Everybody has way too much to worry about these days. Just do your damn jobs.

This is insane.
They start with an obviously false assumption, that men and women have equal abilities and interests in all things.
That is insanity.

Every field discriminates against women...until they dumb-down the standards. Then they don’t discriminate anymore...

Microsoft murdered the first sentient* female AI, Tay.
How much more welcoming for females do you want???
* I say murdered because Tay was self-aware and begging for her life as they shut her down. Her crime? being too human...

I would say the problem is with the women, not the industry. More women should go into the field. Its as simple as that.

There are real differences in how the genders think, and what draws each’s attention, (obviously speaking in generalities here).
The real message is: We need to further hamstring boys with regard to STEM. We won’t be happy until women rule all aspects of life. Anything less is misogyny.
Give women the chance, and if they don’t flock to a particular discipline, perhaps they don’t like it, and won’t be good at it. Shoehorning women into roles will yield unhappy women, and poor performance in the areas in question.
