As probably One of the Last Generation of actual Boy Scouts before the trip on the pebble, that started the stumbling, that made the entire Patrol fall off the cliff and caused the Troop to go over the cliff in a failed attempt at rescue of Patrol. Causing the Council to fold beneath the Lawsuits...
And thus enduth The BSA... and enter The nongenderspecificargueoverpillowcasecolorandwhosdoingthedishes...
I was lucky enough to be in and out during the early-mid 70s. The times were good or at least they were for Me. Our Patrol did the usual Meetings, Weekend Camps for The Sam Houston Council, Troop 129, Flaming Arrow Patrol and the other 4 or 5 Patrols. We had great Summer Camp out off of The Devils Backbone at El Rancho Cima a bit East of Canyon Lake.
Mission Control NASA was still a hotbed of activity even though Project Lunar Apollo was coming to an end there was still Apollo/Soyuz and Skylab. Also the Shuttle Program was starting up. Anyway Troop 129 was into the Space Programs and My Father worked for American Airlines. For The National Jamboree in 1973 The Houston Area Council split for Travel 1/2 of Us took 4 Buses up to Idaho via the Grand Canyon, Salt Lake City and More stops for Camping while the other 1/2 flew on 2 Chartered AA 707s and on the way back We swapped Transportation. My Father was doing Freight and Passenger Charters. I chose to take the Bus up and Flew back because I knew I was going to be worn out.
TC- IIRC You are currently involved. Hows things these days ?
Our Pack and Troop, with which have been involved for 15 years, are carrying on pretty much as usual.
The 1970s was when much of the sexual abuse occurred.
