2018 tally of 131 deaths includes 75 stabbings and comes as police await funding decision
London’s homicide rate has reached its highest level in a decade as police chiefs brace themselves for a government announcement about whether they will get the extra funding they believe is vital to tackle rising violent crime.
The Metropolitan police said they were called to the fatal stabbing of a teenager in south-east London on Tuesday night, taking the tally to 131 deaths, the highest level since 2008, with three weeks left of this calendar year.
London’s total this year includes at least 75 stabbings and 13 shootings.
On Thursday, the government is expected to announce it will allow increases in local taxes to fund policing, but offer less money from central government than forces had hoped for.

I was in London when it was still London in the 70s when I was a kid.
Happy I seen it before it became what it is now. I take no pleasure in watching this great Western city die.

131 murders in a year? London is minor league compared to Chicago. Chi-town can kill 131 in a few months.
Maybe they shouldn’t spend so much time and money stopping anybody saying anything bad about their Muslim overlords.

That’s actually a depressing story from a US perspective - 131 murders for 8.7 million people is incredibly low by our standards. NYC has more than twice as many murders so far this year, and it is considered “safe” in terms of American cities. It looks like NO large US cities have a murder rate anywhere near as low as London. And the worst (like St. Louis) have murder rates about 45 times higher. Yes, forty-five. What a mess.
A day? Holy crap.
NYC’s rate is the lowest since WW2 and has 19M people vs London’s 8M.
The solution is simple....raise taxes and bring in some more peace loving muzzies....
The murder numbers refer to the city of New York, which is 8.6 million. The extended metro area has more murders since it includes much more violent cities like Newark.
