The former San Antonio mayor and secretary of housing and urban development (Hud) under Barack Obama has already held events with prospective donors for a 2020 campaign. He told Rolling Stone in October that he is “likely” to run.
Among all of the speculated contenders in the 2020 presidential race, Castro will probably be the only prominent Latino Democrat. The 44-year-old has been a rising star in the Democratic party since he became mayor of one of the country’s largest cities in 2009. Three years later, he was the first Latino to give a keynote speech at the Democratic national convention. In 2016 the Democratic nominee, Hillary Clinton, vetted him as a potential running mate.
The hints of a 2020 run keep coming. This week, he and his twin brother Joaquín Castro, a US congressman, are stopping by Stephen Colbert’s Late Show for a chat.

Take my word for it as a San Antonio resident - this would be the worst possible guy to live at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.

When he deferred to Beto for the 2018 Senate race, Castro lost much political clout. I can see him deferring again to Beto in 2020. People in TX still have “Beto-mania”, and it is incurable.
Yep, knew years ago he was going to run. Thought he’d do it last time. This time is even better. A real La Raza Mexican with Asian eyes and not a natural born citizen (on mama’s side) up against the fake Mexican, Beto. What an embarrassment for Texas. Maybe they’ll destroy each other.
I got a better place for this thing to move into: GITMO. Based on his line of patter, that's where he truly belongs.

Dems are not going to put a Hispanic on the 2020 ticket. The last thing they want to talk about is the border and immigration. My money is on O’Roarke/Gillum ticket. That covers the soccer mom and black vote demos. Also sets up a generational contest between Gen X and a senior citizen POTUS.
They are identical in the extreme, to such an extent that JOAQUIN stood in for Julian at the River Parade one year. Only admitted to it after the press got hold of it, but said he was just there as the brother.
After the United States has become the dazzling multicultural utopia the democrats plan on having, then there will arise warlords of the various ethnic groups vying for power.
Castro just staked out his Hispanics, challenging the Irish Hispanic for that mantle.

There will be a Muslim strongman emerge from the Muslim Brotherhood.
