Trump sprang three traps on Pelosi and Schumer yesterday
American Thinker ^ | 12/12/2018 | Thomas Lifson

President Trump clearly shocked House speaker-to-be Nancy Pelosi and Senate minority leader Chuck Schumer yesterday with his televising of the Oval Office sit-down over his demand for $5 billion in funding for border security, including funding of critical mileage for his border wall.  Knowing well that Pelosi had already vowed publicly that "transparency and openness" would characterize the Democrat-run House starting next month, her plaintive request to speak in private scored points for Trump and revealed her hypocrisy before any substance at all was considered.

The remarkable body language during the meeting tells the story of Trump's dominance.  Here is the full video of the press gaggle, via Grabien:

That was merely the first of three traps Trump had prepared for the Democrats' congressional leadership.

Trump's second trap is his bold declaration of ownership of any "government shutdown."  Democrats have convinced themselves that what is called a "shutdown," but really means furloughing non-essential federal workers, is a tragedy, a scar on the nation's psyche.  The fact that federal workers are now a major and solid constituency for Democrats skews their perception of the public's concern.  Aside from canceling sleigh rides in national parks and other such photo drama, the fact is that life goes on well for nearly all Americans during the furlough.  They learn that there are a lot of non-essential government workers.

After multiple shutdowns, including the last one that bore the label "Schumer Shutdown" and was quickly conceded by the Democrats, the public is no longer afraid of non-essential services (roughly 25% of the government) being temporarily suspended.

Chuck Schumer took the bait on the second trap, and after the Oval Office meeting, he employed triumphantly the term "Trump Shutdown" as if he had won a victory through Trump's surrender.

I did see it, and our President was magnificent. Pelosi and Schumer looked like dim, spoiled children. I’m still confused about the endgame. The current House votes to fund the border wall (Trump says he has the House votes, so I believe him). Schumer leads a Senate filibuster and there’s a government shutdown. As the President said, we don’t have the votes in the Senate, so the R senators will cave. Of course, the Dems will look horrible, but what will we gain in terms of funding the border wall? I must be missing something.

“I wonder how easy it is for these two to get all the opioid prescriptions they need.”

Cuz they’re our betters, the elites, top of the pyramid.
Rules and regulations are for us little people ya know.

Yea but you would think the people should voting for Repubs by a giant margin because the Dems want to kill all this success that Trump has created. These elections should be running 70 30 for Repubs. I know there is a lot of cheating but this is crazy.

You could write an extra tax refund in 2020....maybe giving folks paying $10k or more in taxes...maybe 2,000 more back in the refund.

Not the greatest optics.

Looking back on the campaign, Trump made a lot of mentions of the paucity of SS. With extra monies, I would bet more on some sort of dramatic increase in the lower levels of SS. IIRC, there was brief mention of an across-the-board $1k/month for all seniors achieved by a *leveling*. Those with the highest distribution, coupled with pensions and 5-figure IRAs might see a cut.

Now, how would the donks be able to campaign against that? How many low-level recipients of SS without pensions or substantial savings are there?

No matter how that turned out, it would be fun to watch.

Even Christian gentlemen of impeccable morality are human.

Pence wants to jam his right fist down Nancy’s throat and he is praying:”Lord, give me strength.”

I still haven’t decided what he wants to do with the strength, though. I’m sure he may be conflicted.

American Thinker needs to think more.

Majority of the United States voters don’t give a hoot.

A large percentage just want gibsmedats, a large percentage just want to stimulate their genitals anyway they want, a large percentage want “equality” over what nurtures society the best, and unfortunately a small percentage just want the ideas from Pelosi as well as Schumer eradicated from the public square.

Yeah, it's a given that they did something in Wisconsin.

The WisCommies didn't get busted like Michigan did in Detroit, though.

I was going to do Wisconsin next, but I just found out about that giant Michigan ballot FOIA request.

Considering all the statements about Trump dominating Schumer and Pelosi I didn’t see any big put downs etc
I thought the whole meeting was rather tame
