Forget about weekends and holidays?

Because no one was on SSRI psych drugs.

It’s that and more: There have been a number of incidences which appear to be fairly directly media driven, and a few that quite clearly were.

"A shooting every 8 days! 113 killed or injured"...

Numbers meant to sound sensational but... In a nation of 320+ million, not terribly statistically significant. I understand every single one of those is a life-altering event for surviving friends and family. I understand first-hand loss of family members. But let's not fall into the pro-disarmament leftists' hands of letting our emotion and empathy rule over our reason.

They want us to be upset, they want to instill a sense of crisis, of urgency to "DO SOMETHING!" But let's consider, let's put those 113 deaths or injuries into perspective. From the CDC's database 1999-2014 average deaths (not including injuries) per year:

These are all deaths - not including injuries to pump up the numbers. Because if you look at actual deaths in school shootings for 2017 that is just 16 people, which includes 4 perpetrators/shooters. So that translates to just 12 innocent victims. Again, yes, a tragedy for those 12. But in perspective, not cause for a national panic and mass surrendering of rights and protection in the rush to "DO SOMETHING!"

You don't see people lobbying local legislatures and even Congress to "DO SOMETHING ABOUT CONSTIPATION!" Nor do people seem to be overly afraid of their John Deere (mowers or farm machinery). And I'm a little curious about the gymnastics other people are apparently performing in bed to get strangled or fall hard enough to kill themselves...well, maybe not that curious...

The point is, statistics and numbers can be (and are) presented in such a way as to be persuasive. Yet you have to look deeper to realize that if you really want to help your fellow man, maybe instead of hanging useless (as in demonstrably ignored by criminals) "gun free zone" signs at schools you ought to occasionally pass out free fiber supplements.

Finally, yes, this post is written with a rather light and irreverent tone for such a serious topic. I am not belittling the suffering caused by shootings. I am very intentionally belittling the false sense of urgency and panic would-be gun-grabbers attempt to convey.

Another headline they could have used:

“Parkland Students focus on school shootings precipitate most school shootings ever recorded in one year”

Most schools have holidays off, a break at thanksgiving, christmas, and spring break, and several days off for teacher workdays and study days.

IN oru area, and north, they have up to 10 snow days as well.

And your “260” days includes saturdays and sundays, while I presume you didn’t actually attend school on weekends.

If you attended school every single weekday in every month except june, july, and august, you would be at 170 school days. There are a total of 260 weekdays in a year.

Seems the least safe place is the parking lot after a high school sporting event.

From the list:

Three students were injured when a teacher, who is also a reserve police officer, accidentally fired his gun in a classroom as he was teaching a gun safety lesson.

MORE: https://www.ksbw.com/article/da-announces-outcome-of-dennis-alexander-classroom-gun-incident/21073949

FROM the article: When Alexander’s gun fired into a ceiling — injuring some Seaside High students with falling ceiling debris — he did not commit a crime, prosecutors concluded. He also didn’t violate any laws when he allowed students to handle his police service weapon and take selfies with it.
