The 21-year-old avowed neo-Nazi who murdered a woman when he plowed his car into a crowd of counterprotesters last year at a white nationalist rally in Charlottesville, Va., will likely spend the rest of his life in prison.
A jury in Charlottesville said Tuesday that James Alex Fields Jr. should be sentenced to life plus 419 years in prison and $480,000 in fines, for killing Heather Heyer and seriously injuring 35 others.
Judge Richard Moore will decide whether to sign off on the recommended sentence at a hearing on March 29.

I think this is an emotionally reached decision that will probably be reduced on appeal.
I also think there are people who have done far worse, and had much less punishment. Someone posted an example up above.
Here is a voice of reason.
That’s what happened. I’m not even certain she was actually hit by the car, since there is conflicting opinions on what the video even shows.
Fields was chased down by ANTIFA pointing rifles at him. They were also armed with baseball bats and attacking cars.
But Fields went down because he shared that meme from back when the BLM was blocking traffic of “getting the high score” running them over. A photograph. But even I’ve posted that one.
He also got nailed because they had his jailhouse conversations with his mother where he said he didn’t care about the woman’s mother, because they are “the enemy.”
He also shared a joke message to his mother with a photograph of Hitler.
He was convicted because of his politics, not because of the facts on the ground.
That sentence is ridiculous for the crime, even if all evidence pointed to it. However, the evidence for the defense was both objective and apparently ignored by the jury.
So anything over just a few years will likely be overturned on appeal.
From the official reports she took a direct hit.
She was 330 pounds at 4'9. I also saw video of some stupid ANTIFA jabbing her chest violently in order to restart her heart.
I think her injuries were from her fat hitting the floor after being shoved by multiple people when the car went through at 20-25 miles an hour.
My recollection (would need to dig into my files to find the source) is that he hit the car in front of her, which then slammed into her.
Are you attempting to justify her murder with your qualifier?
James Alex Fields, Jr. will also face a second trial on 30 FEDERAL hate crime charges. One of those charges is murder that could carry the death penalty.
So he gets life plus from the state of Virgina and the possibility of lethal injection from the U.S. Department of Justice.

Back when the incident occurred, I saw a video clip that showed Fields backing up while his car was being seriously attacked by the mob. I tried to figure out from the press coverage if that video showed Heather Heyer being killed, since it does show someone being at least somewhat mashed between a Toyota truck and the Challenger. I still don't have an answer.
I thought Fields had no option other than to back up in that circumstance.
However, I suspect that the video I saw was shot AFTER the Challenger rammed the car in front of it, and caused Heather Heyer's death. The car was under attack because of what Fields had already done.
I could easily be wrong about that. It is just a guess.
As for Heyer's "heart attack," here is the autopsy report. Notice that it says "BLUNT FORCE INJURY TO TORSO", not myocardial infarction. It also says that the cause of death was "HOMICIDE."
The truth is out there somewhere.
I think the jury felt pressure to throw the book at him. I think publicity adversely affected the normal process of justice.
“So anything over just a few years will likely be overturned on appeal.”
If he is lucky, an appeals court will cut his sentence in half.
Not many white people smoking Newports these days. Bet she was popular with the brothers.
You are absolutely right.
The jury was fixed, no doubt in my mind.
Agree, where are the pictures ? He didn’t kill her.
The trial needs to be moved. Charlottsville is corrupt to the core.
The trial is over. We’re at sentencing.
