Ask the Vietnamese who fled here to escape communism and betrayal about what they had to do to enter the US....

The question that MUST be raised is “Why are non-citizens even PERMITTED to be on welfare?

IMHO, if we quit providing FREE STUFF, the moochers and layabouts will leave!

I, for one, am damn sick and tired of paying for these moochers and layabouts!

Cruel Rule my A$$.These Alian Parasites have no right expecting the American Taxpayer to provide for them and their progeny. Our Government shouldn't be stealing from us and providing any monetary assistance without asking us.

The only assistance they should get is the return ticket to their country of origin.

Ask Kate Steinle’s father about how ‘cruel’ that law is.

The US is loaded with cash for immigrants and has no worries about debt. Just ask Congress.

Once upon a time this country was sane. Public charges were not eligible for either visa extensions or citizenship. Those likely to become a public charge were excluded from entry even during the Ellis Island era (1890-1954) of high immigration.

We have an ample supply of home-grown public charges and no need to import more.

Whomever these Trump foes are, they’re enemies of the people and their names must be made public.

When I brought my foreign-born wife to the US, I had to file paperwork agreeing to reimburse the government if she became a financial burden to the US - welfare, food stamps, medicaid, etc. I signed, and 30+ years later she’s a US citizen still working as a nurse.

But why was that expected of me and my wife, and no one who just crosses the southern border illegally?

As a matter of fact, I was at Ellis Island yesterday and the park ranger who led our tour told us over 12,000,000 people came through and nobody was allowed into the country unless they could prove they had enough money to support themselves and would not be a financial burden to our citizens or country. My how things have changed!

Few border crossers are seeking jobs. They are looking for a life of leisure paid for by US taxpayers, IMO

As recently as 30 years ago, someone emigrating to this country had to have a sponsor who would take responsibility for the immigrant, if the immigrant didn’t find a job. Period.

This is a case I am familiar with:

What would you say if someone came here legally (spousal visa), got their green card, worked some, but mostly was a housewife doing most of the raising of her kids (all by her US Citizen husband). Wife retains old citizenship, as plan is for her & hubby to retire to her country eventually (US is just way too expensive), this allows family to retain full control of any investment in wife’s country when they move there. Hubby had always worked in US (25+ years) & was never on any public aid of any kind, then 2008 comes along & hubby’s specialty (about 95% of that industry in the US) goes “poof”, hubby scrambles, but it takes several months before finding another job sufficient to support his family; hubby received unemployment compensation for several months + modest medical aid (Medicaid), no other welfare. Since then hubby has again been valuable member of workforce, paying considerable taxes. Wife is still here on (renewed) green card, works now, pays taxes w/ hubby. Total present income probably a bit below median.

Should this family be required to reimburse the gov’t further than the taxes and workman’s comp taken out of their paychecks prior to and following the months of unemployment? Or should the wife (and therefor the family, to stay together) be kicked out of the US?

IIRC, that was still true in 2001.

I have always understood that permanent residency (green card) granted every benefit of citizenship except voting. That green card holder in fully vested in American society and will probably be happier and better off retiring in the US rather than another country.

That’s precisely why I ignore laws I don’t agree with.
In my opinion if a law is written that violates my reading of the UNITED STATES CONSTITUTION, it’s not a legitimate law and I am not required to comply.
Someday when they catch me they will put me in jail (3 hots & a cot), at my age “BFD”.

They do, and they have no hesitation whatsoever in shipping people back to their countries of origin, either. On the next available flight, and the offenders get to sit in custody in the meantime.

They also look for people coming in to work illegally, without a work visa. That will get you sent home and banned for a period of time, as well.
