President Trump on Tuesday engaged in an extraordinary argument with Democratic congressional leaders over his demand for border-wall funding, threatening a government shutdown if he does not get the money.
"I will be the one to shut it down," he told House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) at the White House.
During the contentious meeting in the Oval Office, Pelosi (D-Calif.) repeatedly asked Trump not to discuss the funding request in front of the news media.
"You will not win," Pelosi told Trump.
The meeting was scheduled to be closed to the press but the White House unexpectedly opened it to reporters just as Pelosi and Schumer were arriving at the White House.
The exchanged heightened the sense of drama surrounding government-funding stalemate between Trump and Democrats.
Lawmakers face a December 21 deadline to avoid a partial government shutdown. Republicans and Democrats have been unable to bridge their dispute over how much money to provide for Trump's border wall.
Democrats are offering $1.3 billion for border fencing and barriers, short of Trump's $5 billion request.

Nancy Pelosi is an embarrassment. What’s sad is the numbskulls here in SF that vote her in every two years. There are conservatives even in SF who love President Trump and despise Pelosi. I hope and pray Trump builds the wall as fast as possible. Too many bad hombres are getting in.
I could not believe what I was seeing of Schumer’s behavior - rude, obnoxious and staring at the cameras to make sure they got it. He must have gotten beaten up on the playground a lot when he was a kid. If he did, it wasn’t nearly enough.
Do we have any conservatives that are as obnoxious in front of cameras as the dems are? I’m serious. Are there any who put on such shows as they do or do we just not see it from our side? We can see some anger once in awhile as recently shown with Lindsey Graham but that was a delight and unusual.
I saw the female Dingall form MI on with Harris Faulkner and my goodness, she was whining like a 3 year old. She said her husband wants her home for the holidays and she doesn’t want to stay in DC...she said it again before the segment was over and Harris said, “I know - you already said that once.” Harris showed a rare bit of impatience with her pontificating. She knows just what needs to be done to secure the border and building a wall is not it. Amazing they have all the answers but nothing gets done on their watch. Just obstruct for the sake of obstructing.
Good grief - her husband is 92 years old and she’s 65...probably doesn’t even know where she is, never mind “wants” her home. Talk about being way past your expiration date! He was in Congress for nearly 60 years and her bio has her active on several charities and sitting on several boards. Where did their money come from? Stupid question.

Trump is 72 years old, a full 7 years old than Dingall.
Does he also not know where he is? Or is it just female septuagenarians who don’t know where they are?

Don’t know what your problem is but I wasn’t talking about Trump or the lady’s age....to clarify it for you - “HE (husband) probably doesn’t even know where she is”
NOW would be a particularly good time for Trump to either demand the records about who was paid illicit congressional sex peccadillo hush money using taxpayer dollars.
If not a direct release of the federal records, perhaps an offer to indemnify any costs related to breaking the NDAs of any victim who comes forward, out of his own personal funds, of course!
I bet the alleged campaign funds finance violation vanishes from the public square at the mere threat!
