The initial warning is given before Vice even starts, in an onscreen note: Its a true story, were told. But its hard to be strictly factually accurate, the note adds, because Dick Cheney is such a secretive bastard. So its really Cheneys fault if anything in the movie happens to be wrong.
Yet at the end a character will break the fourth wall to assert that the whole thing is factual and say, sarcastically, Because I have the ability to understand facts, that makes me a liberal? That sounds like an invitation to consider the facts and logic of Vice. I accept.
Near the start, writer-director Adam McKay, who somehow segued from Will Ferrell movies to this InfoWars-style garbage dump, implies that Cheneys father-in-law murdered his mother-in-law by drowning her in a lake. Huh? What does this have to do with Cheney? Is there more evidence for this than is presented in the movie, which is none? The movies Lynne Cheney, played by Amy Adams, also seems to think her dad murdered her mom. Does Lynne Cheney actually think this?

It got a Golden Globes nom for Best Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy. So it’s a comedy, not a drama?

At the CFR, Dick Cheney brags how he decieved the voters:
“It’s good to be back at the Council on Foreign Relations. As Pete mentioned, I’ve been a member for a long time and was actually a director for some time. I never mentioned that when I was campaigning for re-election back home in Wyoming.”
