With Virginia Becoming A Liberal Hellhole, A Familiar Anti-Gun Face Says Hes Running For Governor In 2021
For Republicans in Virginia, its time to face facts. Were slowly becoming Maryland. Yes, we may have a Republican state legislature, but majorities in both houses hang by a thread. The Northern Virginia suburbs, where I live, are chock full of insufferable liberals who drive the direction of the whole state. The days of this state going to the GOP are over. The Obamaites infested the Old Dominion and never left. The next gubernatorial election is not until 2021, but we already have one anti-gun voice that says hes in: state Attorney General Mark Herring.
If you dont remember this man, hes the one who tried to torch Virginias concealed carry reciprocity agreements with two-dozen states around Christmas time in 2015. In January of 2016, it was announced the then-Democratic Gov. Terry McAuliffe would be restoring those agreements, however. Yeah, the anti-gunners were not happy. In February of 2016, McAuliffe signed a bunch of gun bills, including one recognizing gun permits from other states, into law. While I did not vote for McAuliffe, he did well on this deal with regard to our Second Amendment. Granted, he had a Republican legislature to keep a lot in check.
Herring will be a total disaster for gun rights, among other issues, and with a Democratic House of Delegates and state Senate, who knows what could emanate from Richmond (via WaPo):
Virginia Attorney General Mark R. Herring will make a run for governor in 2021, attempting to use his perch as the states top lawyer as a springboard to the Executive Mansion.
Herring, a Democrat who surprised many by taking a pass on the 2017 governors race, has been spreading the word to allies and donors in recent weeks. He confirmed his plans to The Washington Post on Friday.
Our work to reduce gun violence, protect healthcare, and pushback on the Trump Administration has been some of the most important work Ive ever done, and its made Virginians lives better in real, tangible ways, he said in an email. Ive been really honored to play a part in building a safer, stronger, more economically dynamic and inclusive Commonwealth as a county supervisor, a state senator, and as attorney general, and I think the best way to continue that work would be as Governor. Theres still a lot I want to accomplish as attorney general, but when the time comes Ill be ready.
A former state senator from Leesburg, Herring, 57, is getting a jump on what could be a fierce competition for the Democratic nomination. Lt. Gov. Justin Fairfax is considered a likely contender. Richmond Mayor Levar Stoney and former congressman Tom Perriello are often mentioned as possibilities.
Hes the first. Im sure he will not be the last, said John Findlay, spokesman for the Republican Party of Virginia. We look forward to a very divisive Democrat primary.

With suburban voters energized against Republicans, Democrats hope to take control of the state House of Delegates and Senate in legislative races in November. They need to pick up just two seats in each chamber to gain control. Republicans have not won a statewide election since 2009.
People used to say that we dont have a good bench in Virginia, but every year we have a stronger and stronger bench of really good candidates, said Del. Mark D. Sickles (D-Fairfax). If Justin Fairfax and Mark Herring run, well have two great candidates for Virginians to choose from.
On the GOP side, yes, the VA GOP hasnt won a statewide race in nearly ten years. The slates of candidates that do run on the GOP ticket are usually below average or downright awful. The state party has been adrift for multiple cycles now. So, as for now, expect more pain next election. The anti-gun Left has kept Virginia in their crosshairs for years. They may get a significant return on their investment with the next major statewide election. We have four years to find a solid candidate and get the VA GOP back on track. It's going to take some work, but if 2017 and 2018 didn't sound off alarm bells here--I don't know what will.
I told them exactly what the problems were and how to fix them over four years ago.
Problem #1 is that the VAGOP establishment works for the Democrats. These people need to be rooted out in toto and a full audit done, with any crimes found prosecuted with vigor.
Until then, get used to Virginia becoming Maryland 2.0.
It can’t be.
First, all the Governors(Florida, Texas, Tennessee, Georgia) were running all over America and tripping over each other to lure big business South, from their high tax states. They gave away the farm with the promises of jobs for all their constituents, new tax revenue, more houses being built, people moving in and pumping money into local economies.
Well..........what happened? The companies did move. And they brought all their Democrat voting, liberal, hipster workers with them. They all realized that they could sell their 2000sf ranch, on Long Island, for $400-500k and buy a mini mansion someplace down south. And at the same time, cut their taxes by 60-70-80% and never have to shovel snow again. New schools, new parks, plenty of new soccer and baseball fields. What else did they bring, their Democratic/Liberal voting patterns. All the policies that got them up and out of “insert high tax northern state here”, they all started to vote for in their new home.
Go to Northern Virginia and you have 24yrs of Presidents and Congress growing the federal beast at an alarming rate. And feeding off the beast are lobbyists, law firms, polling firms, Unions, Industry associations, foreign governments, policy institutes, public relations firms, and everyone else that makes their money off the distribution of taxpayer dollars. All peddling their wares and promises to the morons in Congress, etc. And, they have the ability to feed themselves by making sure the beast never diminishes in size. So, if keeping the Dem’s or some RINO in power means they can cash the next check, then so be it.
Imagine what would happen if states conducted their elections, for things like Governor, if they had a system like an, electoral college. Each county or district gets one vote. I doubt you have very many Democratic Governors in the US and the Left controlled cities wouldn’t be able to dictate the rules to everyone else.
Or, as has been suggested, move them out of DC. No need to have them all centrally located like they are. It would be amazing to see how fast all those real estate prices would plummet when the DC lawyers, etc have no clients because they all moved to Kansas or Oklahoma.
Oh well, did your non-vote purify the Republican Party there yet?
Good question.
Doesn’t that boggle your mind? That so many “Republicans” think they’re making a statement. Gonna show ‘em whose boss.
Democrat Voter .... Candidate has 100 issues - voter only agrees with one of them - voter shows up and votes, at least once, maybe more than once
Republican Voter .... Candidate has 100 issues - voter agrees with 99 of them - voter stays home because of the ONE issue and says the candidate is a RINO and they have to prove a point.
The service industry in NOVA are almost exclusively foreigners.
Yep. I popped into a McDonald’s across the street from my hotel in Alexandria and the entire staff was Spanish speaking. The lady manning the register and taking my order needed translation help from a manager. Just pathetic.
Well, Sen Scott from South Carolina doesn’t see things that way, unfortunately. And nothing needs to be said of Flake, who is going out of his way to hurt the country. Talk about an ego.
Dave Brat lost his race in a district that includes no part of NOVA.
Richmond is little more than a beltway suburb these days.
Nashville is a liberal, hipster haven. As is Chattanooga.
You need a visa to get into some parts of Manassas. And immigrants dont vote against their self-interests for the good of the country.
Winner Winner Chicken Dinner!!!
So, basically the VAGOP is nothing but a whole bunch of Haley Barbour’s that make money, no matter who’s in charge and are not effected by the disastrous policies, yet?
The VAGOP is run by people who are actually Democratic Party partisans - it’s that bad. There are no GOP loyalists in the leadership of the Virginia GOP.
Whores that will do anything for money
That they didn’t run Schoenemann out of town on a rail the night after he kept the polls open in Fairfax for McCauliffe’s razor-thin victory tells you everything you need to know about the establishment VAGOP.
Until there is a complete turnover of leadership, count on further routs.
When you get the “flush tax” and “rain tax”, and 51 other useless-as-teats-on-a-bull taxes, you’ll know you are Maryland Jr.
Can anyone name a GOP candidate for VA governor in 2021?
Therein lies the problem. The state GOP seems completely out to lunch on developing viable candidates, a nomination system to put electable candidates on the ballot, and modern get out the vote methods. That reality makes it doubly hard to get anyone to run for state offices for the GOP.
No more cotton pickin in the summer. Just get on the bus and ride around town votin every other year.
Better yet make em Skype! Total decentralized govt. No more one stop lobby shopping! Representatives have to live in their district!
A little coffee, and shortening bread...
