French President Emmanuel Macron will address the country on Monday as he seeks to placate "yellow vest" anti-government protesters who wreaked havoc in Paris this weekend.
On Sunday, workers in Paris and other cities swept up broken glass and towed away burnt-out cars while the government warned of slower economic growth and the judiciary said it would come down hard on looting and attacks on police.
On Saturday, protesters, for the fourth weekend in a row, threw stones, torched cars and vandalised shops and restaurants in a protest against Macron's economic policies.
The Elysee palace said on Sunday that Macron, elected in May 2017, would address the country on Monday evening at 2000 Paris time (1900 GMT).
On Monday morning, he will meet with trade unions, employers' organisations and local elected officials as he tries to formulate a response to an unstructured movement that has taken France by storm and broken through traditional political and trade union communication channels with the government.
Labour Minister Muriel Penicaud said on LCI television Macron would announce "concrete and immediate" measures, but that this would not include boosting the minimum wage.

Macron better be ready to give the speech of is life. Fail this test and his life may well be on the block as well as his political career. His globalist backers will toss him under the armored car for another puppet. Out of this a better France will emerge. The ghost of Napoleon marches in the streets. If France falls to the Nationalists—the EU (and German Domination} is Doomed.

These are rural workers from outlying provinces who work all week then drive to Paris on weekends.
They’re blaming Russia. You can’t make this up.

People start to protest in Brussels and protect immigration, too. The police send in tanks and add explosives to tear gas canisters, while the French leadership continue to lecture people, “You just have to go along with this, don’t you know we know better? We elites know what is in your best interest.”
I understand the joke you’re making here but in fact the French police were absolutely brutal this weekend. They didn’t mess around at all, detaining 1700 people total and causing serious injury to over a hundred.
Soon they will be conflating the protesters with Neo Nazis and racists, or some other favorite boogiemen of the left.
The socialist governing class view the people as one big blob of grease and bone that has to marshaled by their superior brains. Beneath contempt.
