Republican Senator Ted Cruz has just upped the ante on the contentious battle with the newly-emboldened Democrats over President Trumps proposed border wall.
The Texan who is fresh off of his defeat of liberal rock star Beto ORourke just introduced a bill to fully fund the wall at $25 billion which will infuriate Democrats who are already engaged in a game of guts poker with Republicans over shutting down the government.
Trump has been firm in his request for the funding of a key election promise and as recently as Friday blasted Democrats for playing games over what given the recent proliferation of migrant caravans of thousands that are not only riddled with aspiring refugees who have infectious diseases but also are a perfect cover for criminal elements and possibly terrorists in what has become less about immigration and more about national security.

The solution is to create a single bucket for all welfare, for US Citizens and illegals. Once it is spent, there is no more until next year. This will force Congress to disclose how much is spent on welfare and see how US Citizens on welfare like the illegals competing for and possibly limiting the handout.

*SMH* The solution is to TERMINATE any/all aspects of the (ILLEGAL) welfare state and restore the 4th, 5th, 9th, 10th & 13th Rights of taxpaying Citizens.
‘Cuz, sure, Congress has shown itself to be a GREAT steward of the Treasury, let alone the Constitution, that anyone would believe govt’s fun-with-numbers (aka ‘audit).
Yeah! Lets get this passed! Fully fund the wall!
We need to take a vote, and see who to target to eject off the Trump train in 2020.
$25 Billion? Thats gonna be SOME wall. 200 high, maybe?
naw...he knows being born in canada is a problem.
Fredo two years late.
All a senator has to do to introduce spending legislation is to find a house sponsor...happens all the time!!!
Neither party really wants the wall built. There is too much money to be made off the issue for the pols to build it. They both would rather have it as a political campaign issue for their own respective greedy reasons. If the wall gets built then there is no wall issue which right now is the number one hot button issue with voters today.
To fund the wall would take away the biggest issue driving political campaigns all across the political spectrum and stuffing their campaign coffers with huge amounts of campaign cash. The pols are sticking it to the voters as usual and the gullible voters are taking the bait hook, line and sinker as usual. Pols are playing the voters for idiots. And succeeding at it I might add.
There are a myriad number of other related reasons besides the one I pointed out above for this problem. The whole issue of illegal immigration is such a corrupt money making issue for far too many people inside and outside of government. And IMO isn't going to change until the people or voters get fed up enough and rise up take their government back.

That is the purpose and source of funding for this purposed legislation.
From the article:
Republican senators have introduced legislation to fully fund President Trumps
request of $25 billion for the U.S.-Mexico border wall.
The WALL Act would fully fund the border wall by closing existing loopholes
that provide illegal immigrants with federal benefits and tax credits, without
affecting the benefits and tax credits used by Americans, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas)
said in a statement on Thursday.
To pay for the border wall, the Republicans propose to crack down on benefits for
undocumented immigrants, including requiring that parents have a Social Security
number to claim refundable tax credits, requiring any welfare applicants to prove
they are a citizen and increasing minimum fines on individuals who cross the border
illegally or overstay visas.
If you want to receive food stamps and other benefits, then you should prove your
citizenship. If you cross the border illegally or overstay your visit to this country,
then you should pay a stiff penalty, Sen. John Kennedy (R-La.) added.
In addition to Kennedy and Cruz, the bill was introduced by Sens. James Inhofe (R-Okla.)
and Mike Rounds (R-S.D.).
That was trickery! They stripped an already approved Bill from the HOR and installed ocare in it's place, it was wrong but they got away with it. Ted is attempting to introduce this in original form. Nothing but parlor games considering ryano will never let this see the light of day. There is always the chance (I know, right?) that the HOR is working some end of year deal under the radar and having the $inate 'companion' Bill ready to reconcile would be a plus but I haven't been that naive for 30+ years.
Did I somehow imply that couldn't happen? You need to stick with what I said and try hard not to read other things into it that wasn't said or otherwise implicated.
I believe in the event money for the border wall gets added, Pelosi and her boot-licking media allies will denounce Trump and Senate Republicans for shutting down the government. They know that always works with the RINOs and deep staters.
Yes you did!!! You need to read what you post and quit be so defensive. I stand by my post!!!
Trump knows that his reelection chances improve if his base is energized by a mostly successful fight for funding and major progress on building the wall. Similarly, Pelosi will fight him in order to agitate the Left and advance the Democratic Party’s strategy of using identity politics to hold the loyalty of immigrant communities. Yet any government shutdown will be brief because the political risks are too great for either side to bear.
As pointed out on another thread about same topic....
All spending begins in the House.
The window of ever passing this ended a year ago thanks to Ryan and Turtle.
This is Cruz doing Kabuki Theater again.
If no wall, Trump’s re-election is far less certain. The left and NeverTrumps know this.
Cruz introduced a similar bill early 2017.
With the loss of the House, its far too late for it to happen for real.
Trump was on board waiting until after the mid terms.
Paul Ryan hasn’t allowed any border funding laws to come up for a vote so why is this going to be any different? This should have been done 18+ months ago and they should have replaced Paul Ryan if he didn’t support it. There should have been a stand-alone border fence funding bill a couple of months after Trump was elected. But once again, Republicans snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.
And Republicans should have brought it up for a vote a week before the last election to remind voters who was against funding a border wall. As much as I like Ted Cruz this is not going anywhere with a month remaining before Democrats take over the House of Representatives.
What ever you say.
