This is incorrect.
Nobody cares about the "Oscars" because the films being awarded are unworthy. The awarded films are dreary, poorly written, shabby directed, and over-acted ego strokes that are attempting to advance an agenda, not entertain.
Last film I paid $$$ to see was American Sniper.
I look at the Oscars the way most of the country looked at them in the 1930’s. I really don’t care.
“Nobody cares about the “Oscars” because the films being awarded are unworthy.”
^This. They do it every year, so even if all the films are garbage, they can still pick the “best” for an award. If just once someone from “the Academy” would step up and announce that no films made during the past year met their standards for an award, it might be more entertaining.
That’s because there is a man called Franklin Leonard who runs a site called The Black List that was originally aimed at helping unknown writers get a break, but now is a gate keeper past which all movie scripts must go in order to get made, and they all have to be completely PC. They get points for how PC they are.
Go ahead and pay to see Bohemian Rhapsody. It is worth the money. Fantastic movie.
The last "Oscar" type movie I watched, about 10 years ago, was Rachel Getting Married and let me tell you, I have spent a better two hours at the dentist. That was Hell.
