2 years ago I would have agreed with you. Now, having watched one disastrous nomination after another crash and burn (howsabout McMaster? Tillerson? Sessions?) my approach is pessimistic until proven otherwise. He’s brought in the wrong person time after time and no longer deserves the benefit of the doubt. Even Whitaker, who was supposed to be such a bulldog, has done absolutely nothing. Zip.
Barr looks like just another concession to the Deep State and will be more concerned about protecting a corrupt DoJ than cleaning it out. Notice that the democrats and the media are not screaming in outrage? That’s a sure give away that this is another sellout.
You are absolutely right. Trump no longer deserves the benefit of the doubt when nominating cabinet level personnel. Ill go so far as to say Trump is the worst at this task as I have seen in the fifty years Ive been watching politics.
I wish you would have felt that way when Trump was nominating judges for a lifetime appointment on SCOTUS. He picked a couple of Bush cronyies who said Roe v. Wade was super duper settled law and publicly pledged that they wouldn't overturn it. 99% of FReepers responded by having orgasms over Trump's selection and gushing about he had chosen an "originalist" judge and "kept his campaign promise to give us a Scalia-like pick"
