Washington (CNN) John Kelly is expected to resign as White House chief of staff in the coming days, two sources familiar with the situation unfolding in the West Wing tell CNN.
Seventeen months in, Kelly and President Donald Trump have reached a stalemate in their relationship and it is no longer seen as tenable by either party. Though Trump asked Kelly over the summer to stay on as chief of staff for two more years, the two have stopped speaking in recent days.
Trump is actively discussing a replacement plan, though a person involved in the process said nothing is final right now and ultimately it is up to Trump. Potential replacements include Nick Ayers, Vice President Mike Pence's chief of staff, who is still seen as a leading contender.
News of Kelly's imminent departure was first reported by Axios.

He has been going to resign or get fired for a few years now.
There were reports all the way back to July that Kelly intended to leave in January. This is the kind of job that you’d get burned out on after 12-to-18 months. He’s easily putting 60 hours of work in each week.

A “network” can save a lot of money when it assigns “reporting” duties to its wishful thinkers..
President Trump would be wise to find a way to bring General Flynn back onto his staff,...even in an unofficial capacity....(if he will accept)......The Pres. lost a lot with losing Flynn.

This is not first hand reporting, it’s second hand reporting on what someone else reported, in other words, gossip.

But then he supposedly surprised Trump by saying he had been asked and agreed to stay on longer, no?
Again good riddance—as long as he doesn’t replace him with a swamp creature like Ayers.

Kelly and his girl have been big obstacles to Trump’s illegal immigration agenda.
Past time for him to go.

It did seem like he brought order to the White House and the leaks have almost stopped. But Kelly is a Dem so if he goes that’s fine as long as his replacement is not another swamp thing. Trump’s picks are a mixed bag. Sessions, Wray and Powell come to mind.
