Running for president is hard.
Deciding not to run? That can be even harder.
Over the last year, two-term former Massachusetts governor Deval Patrick has explored the possibility of running for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2020, urged on by a small army of Patrick devotees in the Commonwealth. Inspiring and experienced, Patrick would have been a formidable candidate. He compiled real accomplishments as governor, putting his state at the forefront of life sciences globally and managing the fallout of the 2008 recession. Since leaving office, he has worked for Bain Capital investing in firms with social benefits.
But on Thursday, Patrick formally announced on his Facebook page that he wont pursue the White House, citing the cruelty of our elections process.
The other Massachusetts political figures reportedly considering presidential runs should think carefully before jumping in, too.
On the Democratic side, US Senator Elizabeth Warren, US Representatives Joseph P. Kennedy III and Seth Moulton, and former US senator and secretary of state John Kerry have all been mentioned as possible candidates.
On the Republican side, Governor Charlie Baker swears to anyone wholl listen that he has no interest in higher office but anti-Trump Republicans are openly looking for someone to challenge the president in the 2020 GOP primaries.

That’s because the national spotlight would quickly see how stupid he is.. he’s safe where he is, with the libs protecting him.
TRANSLATION: Clear the deck for Cankles once again.
He wasnt as bad as Dukakis. I didnt hate him, as I did Romney.
He was Obama lite. And it would have taken ten minutes to figure that out.
You realize that the Nazi uniforms were based on the Ma State Trooper uniform?
True story. Its not the other way around.
This is the real implicit racism of the left. What the hell is inspiring about him? Oh, he's black. Imagine the Globe calling a white candidate inspiring? They won't.
It's like talking about a severely autistic kid sinking a basketball basket. If you or I did it, it's just a basket. If the autistic kid does it, it's 'inspiring.'
This is how the left talks about blacks. As for me, I don't care, white or black, Duval was a terrible governor, simply because he's a lefty, and lefties destroy things from within no matter their intentions.
They call Liz Warren inspiring. Al Gore, too. Barney Frank. Even Menino and McCain on occasion.
Say what?
Is this a Hugo Boss thing?
Never heard about it. You pulling my leg?
LOL.......figures.
Wow! That really does look like one of Herr Goering’s uniforms.
Nope. Son in law is a trooper.
That uniform has Ben standard since before WWI.
Interesting
I’ve noticed that many of those Northeastern state troopers have dress uniforms that really DO have that Nazi-era vibe...meanwhile down in hideous retrogressive fascist Florida, our state troopers look like police officers of a Constitutional Republic. How come? /sarcasm;)
Climate change (smirk)?
Did you mean:
I don't want to die if I don't clear the deck for Cankles once again.
Verisimilitude... except Goehring is better looking.
Mitt Romney, like John McCain before him, was a Designated Loser who had no intention of beating the Kenyan from Indonesia.
Both parties cooperated to eviscerate the protections of the natural born citizen requirement.
