They pretend to be calling from the Tax Office, and ask for immediate payment of "overdue amounts". Many people have been caught out, especially home bound and elderly people. I got one such call, but I knew it was a scam. They are ringing EVERYONE.

Go to youtube and type in “tax irs scam call” and tons of videos from actual police officers LOL and IRS tax agents get back at these clowns. I get some of these idiots (from India) at least twice a year who threatened me with an ‘arrest warrant” if I dont pay up...;P

here’s one where the guy the “IRS” called is an actual tax attorney who has experience dealing with IRS lol

They hang up in a hurry if you ask the right question.

Some options:

From what country are you calling?

Do you get paid hourly, or get a percentage of what you bring in? Or are you an independent contractor that buys lists and gets to keep all you can steal?

The IRS will never contact you by
phone, and the Sheriffs Dept always
follows up warrant issues in person,
or if you’re stopped for a traffic
violation, and if you see a stranger
on your front porch, holding a large
envelope, never tell them what your
name is.

It’s very sad that old people continue to get conned. Especially seeing so am starting to get old myself. The annoying thing is we are constantly told that the Australian Tax Office and other Government offices do not call you and ask for money. Older Aussies are not very assertive

I don’t know why our beloved telecomm providers can’t stop this. The scum can spoof local phone numbers when calling, why is that not trapped? Can they not tell that when caller ID does not match the calls country of origin that there is an issue? Surely the NSA could hunt these people down for training, sport, and practice. Everytime a call center is found, they should kill the local switch. Maybe these foreign countries that allow the scammers to operate will police themselves if they continuously have to repair computer hardware for their infrastructure.

As for local scammers, they should be able to tell that a residence is making 200+ calls an hour. I’m sure the NSA data center filters out robocalls. 20 years ago, cell providers could figure out if a caller moved too quickly between towers, that they were probably cloned, so they wouldn’t connect the call. Technology should give us tools to throttle the scammers.
