Australians were conned out of more than $800,000 in November alone as a "tsunami" of scam phone calls threatened people with arrest if they did not hand over their personal details. ...

I got 2 calls myself
About ready to drop our land line phone forever. About all we get are scam callers.
Go to youtube and type in “tax irs scam call” and tons of videos from actual police officers LOL and IRS tax agents get back at these clowns. I get some of these idiots (from India) at least twice a year who threatened me with an ‘arrest warrant” if I dont pay up...;P
here’s one where the guy the “IRS” called is an actual tax attorney who has experience dealing with IRS lol

“About ready to drop our land line phone forever. About all we get are scam callers.”
I’m keeping my landline ‘cause if the electricity goes out, I can still make and receive calls using the corded phone I keep in my desk drawer as a back up to the cordless phones and cell phones.
They hang up in a hurry if you ask the right question.
Some options:
From what country are you calling?
Do you get paid hourly, or get a percentage of what you bring in? Or are you an independent contractor that buys lists and gets to keep all you can steal?
When they say the cops will arrest you ya might want to hang up. LMAO. The cops I know are Law Enforcement Officers.
Bring all you got, I'm not going down.
Come and get me coppers.
I’ve been getting those calls for months now on my cell phone.
I still have one old 500 set plugged in.
.
I had the same call.
I haven’t had a land line in many, many years but I git the scam call on my cell.
“Im keeping my landline cause if the electricity goes out, I can still make and receive calls using the corded phone...”
If you get your landline through a cable service, you might need to think it over again. They don’t power the phones at a central service anymore. We have a battery back up, but they only guarantee it for 9 hours, and that’s only if the cable is still working.
The IRS will never contact you by
phone, and the Sheriffs Dept always
follows up warrant issues in person,
or if you’re stopped for a traffic
violation, and if you see a stranger
on your front porch, holding a large
envelope, never tell them what your
name is.
A co-worker got one of these calls and asked so many questions the guy hung up on her!
I got a call the same week. I hung up on them.
The calls are a nuisance to most of us, but they can be very frightening for some elderly people. One woman told me her mother had had about 3 of these calls. Every time, it scared the poor thing half to death. (She has probably never broken the law in her life and here she is being threatened with jail). Every time her daughter calms her down, reassures her that she has no unpaid taxes, and that the IRS won’t call her, they would send a letter. Then she’s fine, until the next call.
I heard on the radio a while back that if only ONE percent of scam calls (of any kind) get a response, then it’s worth the scammers’ time and effort.
It’s very sad that old people continue to get conned. Especially seeing so am starting to get old myself. The annoying thing is we are constantly told that the Australian Tax Office and other Government offices do not call you and ask for money. Older Aussies are not very assertive
Scammers are getting more clever. They spoof local sheriff’s phone #s and even sound local when they call, not like from Mumbai. Somebody must be low on cash to take this kind of work.
We got something like this last month with threats of we’re coming to your house & immediately called the sheriff. They thanked us & said this was the tenth such call that day claiming to be them. The sheriff’s dept later called us back and said they had made some busts & our report helped make it possible. Seems they were able to trace the spoof number.
“Come and get me coopers’’. Yeah. Ya tin horn flat foots! I’ll fill ya all with lead, get me?
