A photo of George HW Bush's service dog lying downbeat besides the casket of his old master on Sunday has spread across social media, causing an outpouring of emotion.

Bush's son Jeb, Governor of Florida, retweeted the photo, with the simple words: "Sully has the watch."

Abigail Ogle, KOCO News anchor, tweeted: "Sully, the service dog of President George H.W. Bush, keeping watch over his best friend. Rest In Peace, 41. Good boy, Sully."

Glad to hear. I was concerned that he might be put down.

Why would he be put down? This isn't Egyptian times where animals get buried in the tomb.

Dog owners watching Sully last night at the Capitol Rotunda would recognize Sully's sad and persistent habit of looking around the room for his loving owner...

“Glad to hear. I was concerned that he might be put down.

Well, at the time I made my post I didn’t realize he only had the dog for six months. Sometimes, when a dog is the constant companion of someone for many years, especially an older person, they become despondent and won’t eat. Sometimes they won’t accept a new master. Consequently, there may be no alternative but to have it put down. I personally had the experience with my dads dog when he died.

Understood. :) I have definitely heard of that happening with animals. Some famous stories of it out there. Maybe when they train them for their work, they tell them to keep it on a professional level. Lol. Just kidding. Anyway, beautiful face Scully has. I know he’ll make someone else happy and be of service.

Have YOU ever owned a dog...?

I have owned several and a couple of cats. Dogs/Cats are animals and do NOT have the same emotions or thoughts as people. They also do not have episodic memory. Never mind....
