In September, just a few days after French President Emmanuel Macron’s environment minister resigned to protest the watering down of his policies, actress Juliette Binoche tapped 200 like-minded artists to sign a manifesto calling for “firm and immediate” action on climate change.
“We are living through a planetary cataclysm,” said Ms. Binoche, in a missive published in Le Monde alongside the likes of director Pedro Almodovar, actor Jude Law and writer Michael Ondaatje. “We thus consider that any political action that does not make fighting this cataclysm its concrete, declared and assumed priority will no longer be credible. We consider that a government that does not make saving what can still be saved its first objective will no longer be taken seriously … It is a question of survival. It cannot, by consequence, be considered secondary.”
Ms. Binoche and former environment minister Nicolas Hulot, who was France’s equivalent of David Suzuki before joining Mr. Macron’s cabinet last year, were back at it last week as star panelists on the main political talk show on France 2, the public broadcaster. “We’re out of time,” insisted Mr. Hulot, who is being urged by his fans to run for president in 2022. “Thirty years ago, we said we had 30 years to act. The latest report of the [United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change] says we’ve only got two and a half years left.”

Thanks for sharing. I will take a minute away from mocking the french surrender monkeys and believe the spirit of those poor bas****s that fought at Verdun still lives. The spirit fueling the Legionnaires at Camerone or the Legionnaires making their first parachute jump into besieged Dien Bien Phu.
Not only will that carbon tax have no effect & people realize this,then the excuse will be that it’s going to take a little longer. If there is any good change in the climate,which is unlikely,then the climate change believers will take credit & announce that the efforts must be continued. It’s a loser either way once they start collecting carbon tax.
Someone has to get up and become the leader in this revolt or it will turn to anarchy. The last time it turned to anarchy they ended up with a dictator who managed to kill off a good many men in his wars over there.
Can you imagine abandoning a complete army in Russia to get back and form another?

There are so many different actual environmental problems and hazards, problems that are actually quite solvable. Millions die from indoor air pollution caused by burning wood and other organic material inside their homes. There are carcinogens being emitted all over the place, with known impacts on health. Look at the recent California wildfires, thousands of homes lost, probably over 100 lives, plus an entire year’s worth of carbon pollution if you’re counting. Could’ve been prevented with basic long-established forest management techniques, but they didn’t have the budget for it. I could go on and on.
The Yahoos in Congress calling for a carbon tax in the USA SureasHell better pay attention to what is happening in FRance.
It is unlikely that We the People are going to put up with this GlowBull warming hoax/scam/crap much longer!
Meanwhile, today in Texas... Gas is $1.69 / gallon. Electricity is $0.11 / kWh. Taxes are low. And there's money left for Christmas.

But the point I was making, is that CO2 emissions are not a planet-killing problem as the eco-warriors insist. I contest your allegation that millions die from indoor air pollution from burning wood etc., it's actually not that bad a problem. I'm in South SF, and our air quality was bad for a while during the wildfires near Chico, but we got through it and now the air is clean again. Mother nature at work. We didn't die from the air pollution, the wildfires emitting far more CO2 into the atmosphere than anything we mere humans were doing. And nature took care of it. CO2 is not causing "global warming", that is a myth.
On the other hand, we humans are creating lots of garbage that is polluting the sea and land, and that is affecting our food sources. Lots of plastic and pesticides being scattered into the environment. So far our solution was to send it on container ships to Asia, where the Asians ended up taking shortcuts and dumping it into waterways where it ended up in the oceans. That is the problem that needs to be addressed - a great deal of pollution is caused by asians and 3rd-world nations. Of course the U.S.A. is unfairly blamed for everything, and that needs to change. The spotlight needs to be turned towards Asia as the source of worldwide pollution.
I live in Spain and the main road for us to get from one major destination to another is the A7, which is similar to an American interstate. The difference in traffic conditions between Georgia, where I moved from, and here is night and day. On most stretches of road it's like our own private highway. Even when we get to the outskirts of Malaga, our nearest decent-sized city, it's rarely stop and go traffic. Good for us when we travel.
Normally we get around town on a 125cc motor scooter, which costs less than 5 Euros a week for gas when we do fill up it's around 1.27 a liter which would be $5.45 a gallon in US dollars.

Does anyone in France realize that the findings of the IPCC are NOT credible? The science of man-caused climate change is far from settled. The 97% scientific consensus is really 32% and, maybe, even lower.
Just because 32% of the population thinks that the sky is falling does not justify irresponsible action.
Climate change is real and is caused by the Sun. We may be on the cusp of global cooling.

Hey neighbor, I’m right over the hill from you in Pacifica. I do agree that carbon emissions are not an environmental problem, but was just pointing out that, if you do believe that, you should favor effective forest management even more, because it’s a fact that a major fire like what we experienced a couple of weeks ago releases massive amounts of carbon into the atmosphere.
