The majority of flights of C-54’s were from the USAF base at Burtonwood, England, the largest air base in all of Europe. Today the landing strip is part of the freeway that goes by Warrington and much of the airbase is “Gulliver's World”, a theme park. One hangar at Burtonwood was 47 acres large. Burtonwood served as the repair base for the B-17’s that bombed Germany during WWII. Burtonwood has a great history.
