Although it is often stated as a lie, I don’t think a broken promise counts as a lie—unless you never meant to fulfill it. When GHW Bush said “Read my lips...”, I’m sure he meant it. Later, he allowed himself to be rolled by the Democrats into breaking the pledge, and as you say, they then rolled him out of office. That and Ross Perot gave us the Clintons (spit).

Funny, the left never had a problem with Bill Clinton's broken promise of a "middle class tax cut." And of course, Bill Clinton never meant to fulfill that either.
