Gov. Rick Scott suspended Broward County elections supervisor Brenda Snipes from office Friday, citing malfeasance and incompetence on the heels of a tumultuous recount during which the governor also accused the embattled supervisor of elections fraud.
Scott signed an executive order late Friday afternoon removing Snipes from office. To back his decision, he listed a litany of well-publicized problems, including the misplacement of thousands of ballots during the recount, a missed state deadline to file results and the inadvertent mixing of invalid ballots with valid ones.
“Every eligible voter in Florida deserves their vote to be counted and should have confidence in Florida’s elections process,” Scott said in a statement. “After a series of inexcusable actions, it’s clear that there needs to be an immediate change in Broward County and taxpayers should no longer be burdened by paying a salary for a Supervisor of Elections who has already announced resignation.”
Scott replaced Snipes with Peter Antonacci, a former lobbyist and one-time general counsel to Scott — a scenario Broward Democrats worried about when Snipes submitted a resignation letter on Nov. 18. Snipes had planned to step down in January, but she won’t get that opportunity now that Scott has suspended her, effectively ending her tenure.
Snipes intially got her job when then-Gov. Jeb Bush appointed her in 2003 to replace the suspended Miriam Oliphant. She was elected and reelected after.
Antonacci will likely serve the remained of her current term, which runs until 2020. If that’s the case, he’ll oversee voting in Florida’s most Democratic county during the upcoming presidential election.
“I know that Pete will be solely focused on running free and fair elections, will not be running for election and will bring order and integrity back to this office,” Scott said.

What took you so long? Honest voters do not care about the races of the ballot counters. Be braver, Mr. Scott.
Fire all staff, walk them out with security staff, change the locks, change the passwords on the computers, change the bank accounts.
They don’t prosecute her because it would be impossible to get a 12/12 jury vote of conviction. There is always at least one hard-core leftist on any jury anywhere.
Probably suspended with pay no doubt. It would be nice to see her lose her pension in the end.
What good does this do? I thought she already stepped down... Why is she just suspended and not arrested and jailed?

Now go after all the mayors, commissioners, the school boards and the sheriff.
She may lose part of it, but a good part of her pension is from working as a teacher and principal in the local school district.

Her absence won’t guarantee a clean election. They also must get rid of the scummy employees of hers who have been working behind the scenes for years. It’s like Trump being elected, and doing the right thing. However, the obama holdovers continue to maintain corruption.
Changing the person at the top is a great start, but it’s just not enough.
