GEORGE WILL: Republicans should study Colorado's change in tint, from purple to blue

Social scientists, say Colorado boosters, have plausible metrics identifying their state as the happiest and healthiest state, the former quality perhaps producing the latter. Or the other way around. Or maybe the tangle of causation cannot be unwoven. Be that as it may, 300 days of sunshine – this Mile High City is practically cheek-by-jowl with the sun – entice people into outdoor activities that help the state have chubby America's lowest obesity rate.

Among the least happy and healthy Colorado cohorts is the Republican Party, which is less svelte than emaciated. This state is in many ways a glimpse of the nation's future, so when national Republicans are done congratulating themselves on having lost only the most important half of what the Constitution's Framers considered the most important branch – Congress is accorded Article I for a reason – they should study Colorado's changing tint, from purple toward blue.

When asked whether his party's rout of Republicans on Nov. 6 indicated that many voters recoiled when they saw "R" next to a candidate's name, Gov.-elect Jared Polis demurs, saying that what they effectively saw was: "T." Polis, and many of the Democratic candidates who will be in lopsided majorities in both chambers of the next state legislature, did not need much more help than Donald Trump. This flight from the president's party matters as a national portent because Denver and its suburbs, which undulate east toward the plains and west toward the mountains, contain 50 percent of the electorate. Eighty percent is in the booming urbanization of the Front Range from Fort Collins and Greeley down to Colorado Springs and Pueblo.

Also, Colorado's population has a lower median age than those of 38 states, and its Hispanic percentage, 21, is the nation's seventh largest. The state ranks second behind...

I moved to SoCal as a teenager in the mid ‘60s. Orange County was the Beach Boys demographic you see in all the TV series set here around that time. It was a bit more ethnically diverse than some parts of the US, but nothing overwhelming.

So I had a front row seat to watch the transformation occur. It was way more noticeable in LA just north of us, but eventually our turn would come. I think something like 50% of our local adult population were born outside of the US. And that’s from all over the 3rd world, not just south of the border.

Demographic diversity is kind of like spice. In small amounts it’s interesting. When it takes over the whole meal, it’s a problem.

Flake isn’t a Democrat. But he is an open borders Mormon, of which there are many. Stems from one of their unusual ideas about the native people of the New World.

“George Will long ago jumped the shark. “

That’s for sure. In 1980 George Will wasn’t even a Reagan supporter. IIRC he was a Howard Baker, GHW Bush flunkie.

Curious how that bow-tied geek ever had a career.

“California itself is becoming overrun with Illegals, and has become a much more dangerous place over the years. “

No “becoming” about it, I think we had arrived at overrun back around 1994 when we all voted for Prop 187. The fool GW Bush flew out here from Texas and sided with Mexico’s illegal aliens, against the grassroots voters of California.

I believe you. It occurs to me that the problems South of the border are problems of the mind and spirit. People do not think right down there. The concept of Western Civilization and the rights of man haven't taken root in those cultures.

They are living in mindset of feudalism, and they are bringing it here when they migrate.

Awhile back I read an article that Mormons wouldn't like too much. It pointed out that since the Mormons were dominating this Ancestry/Genealogy business, they have been made aware of a bit of fact that has serious repercussions for their religion.

Namely that there is no Jewish DNA in any of the native peoples of the New World. I'm not greatly familiar with Mormonism, but I believe one of their tenets is that the native peoples in America are descended from the Lost tribe of Israel.

Science is informing them this isn't true, but they keep it quiet and mostly ignore this development.

Sounds like a Bush. I remember prop 187, and I wondered what had happened to it. Of course it was overturned by a Federal Judge with a bullsh*t excuse.

The judge's argument was crap. Illegal immigration is not part of "Federal Immigration." The state making it more difficult on illegals seeking services would have no effect on Federal system immigration.

“I’m not greatly familiar with Mormonism, but I believe one of their tenets is that the native peoples in America are descended from the Lost tribe of Israel.”

You’ve hit the bullseye on what is behind their affection for open borders and illegal aliens.

The belief that Amerindians were the Lost Tribes of Israel actually didn’t originate with the Mormons, it was an idea that had been kicking around the American colonies for a hundred years or more. Smith just gave it new life by making it part of his religion.

As you say, DNA has created a problem for this entertaining belief. But long before that the complete absence of Hebrew, of writing, of knowledge of the wheel, and myriad other things that a Lost Tribe Hebrew would have brought with him to the New World was a glaring clue that the Amerindians were not the Tribe of Dan, etc.

There is no definitive history of what happened to the Lost Tribes so it’s ripe for a good story. The banal version is that those who wanted to keep to their religion moved south and joined Judah. The rest had already been abandoning their religion and mimicking pagan practices, so the most likely fate is that they were absorbed into the surrounding cultures and lost to history.

One infuriating aspect of the Prop 187 saga is that the decision of Judge Mariana Pfaelzer The Corrupt was never sent to the Court of Appeals. But it still can be, if any California Governor would do it.

And amazingly enough, we actually had a Republican Governor who could have done that, but didn’t. And that of course was the odious Arnold Schwarzenegger, the Willing Tool Of the GOP Establishment. Which is why he didn’t bother to appeal Prop 187, because the Bush GOP had zero interest in defending California from the tidal wave of illegal immigration.

That's what I suspected, but this belief is actually false. To inform people would be devastating to their religion, so they keep doing their Cargo Cult thing because they are sorta committed to it now.

That is most likely what happened. There should still be traces in the region's DNA, but this will only be of any real interest to Historians and Anthropologists.

A similar conundrum exists for Muslims. They are taught that the Koran is eternal, and the original exists unchanged in Heaven. Problem is, they have discovered versions of it that were earlier drafts, and they are distinctly different in some particulars to what they are using now. They do not destroy them because that too is forbidden, but their existence does seriously undermine the narrative that the Koran was the unblemished work of God.

That and their religion is also heavily dependent upon that rock. I think the Israelis have a plan to destroy it under certain circumstances, and then "poof!" there goes Islam.

Any "Republican" that opposes Republican control of the Federal courts is a DemoKKKrat, no matter what they call themselves.

You can bet that FlaKKKe the DemoKKKrat would be voting against the Republican replacement for Ruth Bader Corpseburg if he hadn't talked himself out of his Senate seat.

Actually, coughing up his Senate seat to a KKKrat is another data point in proving the case that FlaKKKe is a DemoKKKrat...

And of course she's a Jimmy Carter idiot. Thanks Jimmy! Worst disaster of a President till Obama.

because the Bush GOP had zero interest in defending California from the tidal wave of illegal immigration.

I hear that said a lot, but I suspect the Bush aversion to stopping the flow of illegal immigrants has more to do with virtue signaling how non-racist they are than it does with being in bed with Globalists intent on subjugating us.

The Bushes are from Connecticut, and even though George W and his siblings grew up in Texas, I detect the odor of Yale wafting about everything they do.

Whatever their reasons and whatever the reasons of the GOP establishment elite, it is an existential threat to our system of governance, but i'm not sure how we are ever going to stop this juggernaut.

If Trump can't do it now, I don't see how it's ever going to happen.

Results of Colorado Marijuana Legalization 4 Years Later
Barbwire ^ | November 30, 2018 | David Jolly
Posted on 11/30/2018, 2:21:41 PM by fwdude

On January 1, 2014, Colorado legalized the medical and recreational use of Marijuana. They claimed that it would add millions of dollars to the state’s revenue via state taxes which includes a 2.9% sales tax, 10% special sales tax and 15% excise tax, meaning the state would collect $27.90 for every $100 of recreational marijuana sold in the Rocky Mountain state.

In April 2014, 19 year old foreign exchange student Levy Thamba plunged off a hotel balcony and died after eating legally purchased marijuana laced cookies. After eating just one cookie, Thamba became agitated and ran out onto the balcony and over the edge, falling to his death. The pot-laced cookies were legally purchased by a 21-year-old present at the gathering.

In September 2015, 47-year-old Richard Kirk purchased Pre 98 Bubba Kush Pre-Roll joint and Karma Kandy Orange Ginger, a marijuana laced candy. Shortly after eating the pot laced candy, Kristine Kirk, 44, called 9-1-1 to report that her husband was hallucinating and frightening her and their three children. During her call, she told the police dispatcher that her husband had asked her to get the gun from their safe and shoot him. When she refused, she told the dispatcher that he was retrieving the gun. Twelve minutes into the emergency call, the dispatcher heard a gunshot over the phone and then the line went dead.

When police finally arrived at the house, Kristine was dead from a gunshot to the head and Richard was ranting and rambling to himself. In his ramblings, he admitted to killing his wife. Police said that it appeared to them that Richard was definitely suffering the effects of some controlled substance and/or prescription drugs.

By October 2015, the Rocky Mountain High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area just released their annual report which reveals the impact of legal marijuana use. Among the alarming report, marijuana related traffic deaths have increased by 32%. Not all of those that lost their lives were the users of marijuana. They were the innocent victims of someone else who was driving while under the effects of marijuana.

They also reported significant increases in emergency room and hospital visits linked to marijuana use. Additionally, they reported that school expulsions have increased by 40% with the majority of them being related to marijuana.

By October 2014, Colorado officials discovered that thousands of dollars had been withdrawn from ATMs located in the state’s marijuana shops using EBT cards since the legalization of pot for recreational use. These withdrawals were being made illegally as a federal law was passed the same year as the pot was legalized in Colorado, 2012, prohibiting the use of EBT cards at ATMs in pot shops. It’s also illegal to use EBT cards to make withdrawals in liquor stores and casinos, but Watchdog.org reports that hundreds of thousands of taxpayer dollars are being illegally withdrawn at these locations.

After just three years of legalize marijuana, the nice resort and artsy town of Durango had been transformed into something ugly. Along with attracting arts and craft makers and buyers, the city had become a mecca to pot users. The city had seen a huge increase in homeless people, panhandlers, transients and drug addicts.

With the transforming, city officials became alarmed when residents started finding used needles just lying in the streets and on the sidewalks.

Caleb Preston, a local business owner said he regularly has to kick vagrants from sitting in the doorway to his store. With the influx of pot users, the city has also seen an increase in violence and crime. Preston commented:

Just this year there has been a major influx of people between 20 to 30 who are just hanging out on the streets. The problem is while many are pretty mellow, there are many more who are violent.
In a recent episode of Full Measure with Sharyl Attkisson, it was revealed:

In 2016, there was a spike in the state’s homeless population. And houses have become increasingly unaffordable. A typical Denver home is in the $400,000 dollar range. But the biggest surprise is what’s happened to the black market.
It turns out for all the predictions and hope that legalizing marijuana in Colorado would eliminate the black market here—that hasn’t turned out to be the case. In fact, officials in law enforcement and communities tell us they’re having to grapple with a whole new set of problems and costs…

So now what you see is people are taking over these houses, growing a large amount of marijuana. Now it turns into the black market. They ship it out of state and other states are paying large amount of money for this marijuana. So, everything that we were kind of told in re-gards to legalization, that we would get rid of the black market, law enforcement wouldn’t be involved in, it hasn’t panned out. And it’s just not within the city of Colorado Springs. It’s throughout the whole state of Colorado…

There’s also been a spike in other crime like robbery and car theft. In 2016, Colorado’s increase in crime rate was eleven times more than the average 30 biggest U.S. cities. Homicides— up almost 10%.

John Suthers, Mayor of Colorado Springs added:

That’s another irony of this whole thing because the legalization proponents said, ‘oh, you know the cops are spending way too much time on, on this marijuana, they’re ticketing guys in the park and stuff like that. Let’s, let’s stop that.’ Well, guess what, we’re spending an awful lot more time enforcing the marijuana laws than we did when it was all illegal…’
The industry always stereotypes me as kind of a drug war dinosaur. You know, I’ve been dealing with this drug problem for years as a prosecutor and I’m “just in a different centu-ry.” You know, that’s fair. Everybody can analyze that. But I will tell you, I’m backed up on the size and scope of the black market that they said wouldn’t exist and now exists in greater a na-ture and extent than they talked about. We have the highest rate of adolescent marijuana use in the country. We’re not fixing our roads. Our school system hasn’t been bailed out by marijuana money.

It seems the only ones who are profiting by four years of legalization are the legal growers and sellers along with the black-market growers and sellers. The promises of helping the schools, fixing the roads and reducing crime and time spent by law enforcement have all been broken. Innocent people are dying. Traffic accidents and emergency room visits have also increased.

But liberals don’t care!
