ANCHORAGE, Alaska -- A 6.6 magnitude earthquake has rocked buildings in Anchorage, prompting people to run out of offices and seek shelter under office desks. The U.S. Geological Survey says the earthquake was centered about 7 miles north of Alaska's largest city.
Officials issue tsunami warning for coastal areas of southern Alaska after earthquake. There was a tsunami alert for Cook Inlet, the National Weather Service in Anchorage said on Twitter.

That was a long earthquake! Omigosh!
6.6 is NOT small...depending upon where it hits it can cause major damage
I lived in So Calif when the Feb 71 quake hit. Lots of damage, and losses.

I was in San Jose for the Loma Prieta quake that was ‘only’ a 6.9.
Sunrise and sunset are almost irrelevant up there this time of year. The sun sort of pokes over the horizon for a few hours and then goes back down so it doesn’t get very far up in the sky. Further north above the Arctic circle is where you get the perpetual darkness.
My wife spoke to our kids up there a few minutes ago and everybody is ok. The Glen highway is severely damaged.

Praying they're okay too! Getting a cell call through is hit and miss, as you'd expect. Waiting to hear back from our family once they get things sorted out and somewhat stable.

That site just had someone post there’s a 5.1 aftershock right now.
Blaming it on climate change ... it is climate related ... during periods of low/no sunspot activity, earthquakes and volcanic eruptions are more common.

Hope you don’t have any structural damage or anything. Might be good to take a look around and make sure there are no gas leaks or damaged pipes.
