CALLER: Rush, Im very disappointed in you and in fact, quite honestly, Im angry with you because of what you told that lady two days ago and what you told the other call today earlier today in the program. Youre advising us, your loyal audience for 30 years, that have stood by you and that have made you the Moses of conservatism. You are now telling us that we should call ourselves problem solvers rather than conservatives so that we can try to get the political power that we need.
[CUT]
Thats wrong!
Admit youre wrong and do it right here, right now.
RUSH: I never said back down, and I never said not to get in their face. I simply said do not use a term to describe yourself that makes it impossible to have any kind of solution with these people. Thats all. Im not saying dont be a conservative.
CALLER: (shouting)
RUSH: Wait a minute, Geno. I didnt tell you not to be a conservative. I didnt tell you to back down. I didnt tell you to tell these scum to go soft or any of that. None of that at all. Do you not
? Let me ask: Do you not agree that just the name conservative has a little bit of a PR problem right now?

I mean, he isn’t wrong. Frankly most “true conservatives” nowadays annoy me. I’m NOT talking about you guys. I’m talking about the type who I know for a fact is right of center but meekly just backs down and sulks in the corner if someone says something liberal-ish. I’ve seen jellyfish with more of a spine than much of the “true conservative” crowd.
tl;dr, MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!
I heard this conversation today.
Rush was very patient with this caller who was really “out there” in his criticism of Rush.
I like being thought of as “problem-solvers” but we just need to put “conservative” in front of that......conservative problem solvers.....makes sense to me.
When conservatism is “a brand,” it’s no longer conservatism.
This sort of similar to what the communists in America did...
First they were liberals... Then they were leftists... Then they were progressives... Now they are socialists...
Gino was great but he kinda missed the point Rush was discussing. Since #41, the word conservative, for me at least, has been so diluted as to become meaningless. Trump, to me, is conservative, yet he has little support from the congressional Rs regarding illegal immigration, unfair trade deals and endless wars in the Middle East. I wouldn’t be surprised if there isn’t a sizeable # OF Republicans in congress who didn’t vote for him. He’s a stranger in his own party, a party where many make claim to the word conservative. When Trump, the editorial board of the National Review, and the rancid Weekly Standard all claim to be conservative, Rush makes his case.
If Rush is right about ‘conservative’ then ‘Republican’ has to go too.
PRyno and the Flake claim to be Conservatives.
I also heard the entire segment today. Gino or Geno missed Rush’s whole point from the other day. “Conservative” has gotten a unfair rap, so it’s best to omit the label and instead just preach our “conservative” values, which are actually Constitutional values.
I don’t refer to myself as a Republican or as an Independent. I like to identify as a Constitutionalist, a Trump Loyalist or a Trump Republican, because without President Trump, the pansy-ass GOP would mean little or nothing to me. I’d likely still vote GOP because I detest Democrats, but I’d never send them a cent.
Incorrect. Conservative is an inherently busted brand, because nobody in America is actually conservative - you and me included. At the start of the Twentieth Century the term "liberal" meant the same in America as it still does in the rest of the world - essentially, what is called "conservatism" in American Newspeak. Of course we "American Conservatives" are not the ones who oppose development and liberty, so in that sense we are not conservative at all. We actually are liberals.
But in America, "liberalism" was given its American Newspeak - essentially inverted - meaning in the 1920s (source: Safire's New Political Dictionary). The fact that the American socialists have acquired a word to exploit is bad enough; the real disaster is that we do not now have a word which truly descriptive of our own political perspective. We only have the smear words which the socialists have assigned to us.
And make no mistake, in America "conservative" is inherently a negative connotation - we know that just as surely as we know that every American marketer loves to boldly proclaim that whatever product he is flogging is NEW!
We the people of the United States, in order to form a more perfect union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America. That is the mission statement of the Constitution, and conserving the Constitution is what American conservatism is all about. But liberty is the right to do things differently, and to do different things, than your father did. So the Constitution is not a conservative document, it assumes progress is possible and good.
Nailed it. “Conservatives” seem to spend more time about semantics games about what’s really “conservative” or not, OR they spend more time going after Trump way harder than they ever went after Obama, RATHER THAN coming up with solutions. We’ve been saying for years sell health insurance across state lines. Do it. We’ve been saying for years build the wall. Do it. “But but but Trump is mean.” Give me a break, you’ve been getting s-— on by the left for decades calling everyone to the right of MSNBC a nazi, and you’re telling me that Trump is too much of a meanie. Grow up.
IMO, the problem is the media equating republican with being conservative.
If Jeff Flake says Trump is not a true conservative, then so be it.
But we’re still going to make America great again!
I heard this conversation today.

Heard some of it too.
Gino was on a roll.
Rush was at a loss for words.
Imo, gino should have his own show

They have a Problem Solvers Caucus in Congress. They are not our friends. Sometimes it is better to leave problems alone.
He already has his loud obnoxious braying show that won't let anyone else say anything from the Bronx.
It's called 'Hannity'.
I agree with Rush. The word “conservative” is poison to brain-dead millenials, who comprise the vast majority of them.
That’s because those Republicans are left-wing. We’ve been warned about those kind of Republicans in writing for well over half a century. Even Reagan knew about them back in the 1960s, referring to those who would try to “out-liberal” the Democrats.
BTW, an “endless war” appears to be one that is not fought to win, which we are more than capable of doing, but is deliberately hobbled by people on our own side via rules of engagement that destroy the ability to fight, allowing the left-wing press to demoralize the troops, ad nauseam. That means those who are calling the shots in those wars are engaging in treasonous acts.
