Police Thought Cotton Candy Was Meth. She Spent 3 Months in Jail for Their Mistake.

A Georgia woman spent more than three months in jail on drug charges after sheriff’s deputies mistook congealed cotton candy they found in a car she was riding in for methamphetamine.

A state crime lab eventually showed that they were wrong. Now, she’s suing.

In the lawsuit, filed this month, Dasha Fincher alleges that she was wrongfully arrested and incarcerated in December 2016, when she and her boyfriend were pulled over by Monroe County sheriff’s deputies. The deputies found a blue, crystal-like substance in a bag on a floorboard in the car and evaluated it using a roadside test kit, which seemed to confirm that it was methamphetamine.

Ms. Fincher said it was most likely two-day-old cotton candy discarded by the children of her friend, from whom she had borrowed the car. The next thing Ms. Fincher remembers, she was in handcuffs.

“I knew it was cotton candy, and for him to come back and say it was meth, I really didn’t know what to say,” she said in an interview on Wednesday. “I kept thinking, ‘This is crazy, I’ll get out tomorrow.’ Then when I wasn’t out by Sunday, I said, ‘It’s a holiday weekend, I’ll be home Monday.’ Then every day turned into ‘I’ll be out tomorrow.’”

Tinted windows in vehicle. Driving with a suspended license. She couldn't afford the Million Dollar Bail. Pretty big bail. Crazy.

And it also turned out that the window tint was NOT too dark, either. It was legal.

Sounds like they were looking for an excuse to stop her.

“Tinted windows in vehicle. Driving with a suspended license”

Doesn’t sound like upstanding member of the community, but I agree, $100k would make more sense.

Be interesting to see what’s in her past, by the way.

I think these road side test kits are rigged to always give positive results. Cotton candy is pure sugar, how does this test get a positive out of that?

"Dasha Fincher"

Isn't that spelled: -a?

All kidding aside, I hope she wins a few million.

She was NOT Arrested, She is the Victim of a FELONY KIDNAPPING and EXTORTION. All Perpetrators should be in Prison, and 100% of their Assets should be Immediately Seized for Restitution, just like everybody else.

I am adamantly against drugs like meth and heroin and support law enforcement; however, some cops discover small amounts of drugs(even weed) and act like they captured Pablo Escobar.
People have been incarcerated over as little as a seed or old roach.

They’ll get a commendation, maybe a promotion and raise. Any lawsuit will be bourne by the taxpayers.

Well because, I guess, all opioids are sugar based hence the positive reaction. Maybe they were amazed how the cotton candy just seemed to melt right before their eyes and figured that yup, drugs.

Isn’t cotton candy all stringy and fluffy, like cotton? And meth a powder? She should have offered to eat a handful, but they probably wouldn’t have given her that option.

evaluated it using a roadside test kit, which seemed to confirm that it was methamphetamine.

These drug test kits have been PROVEN to be beyond inaccurate and this has been known for years.
