What if he made them Class III? Not that I agree, but that is a little more defensible.

Can't. They were ruled by the ATF as "machine guns" and as such cannot be added to the National Machine Gun registry thanks to the Hughes Amendment.

The only "legal" option is to turn them in or destroy them.

BATFE has previously ruled that bump stocks are NOT full auto because there is still a need for the trigger to be pulled each time a round is to be fired. The bump stock makes this faster than our fingers can do it, but it is NOT full auto.

The whole boating accident idea is about as smart as racking your shotgun to scare a bad guy. You do realize that IF they ever come looking for whatever you “lost” it is as good as lost from them on right? If you ever get caught with it at some time in the future you are double fooked. I just don’t get why so many people race to be first to post such a poorly thought out strategy, but it never fails.

Wide rubber bands, with “bump stock” written on them.

I wish the president would help us know the true story about what happened in Las Vegas the night of October 1, 2017, because the “official” story stinks to high Heaven.

Such responses are actually posted by bots.

Exactly. Unfortunately, the logic of this ban is completely consistent with that. They go together. Bogus, illegal handling of the event followed by bogus, illegal handling of firearms law.

Well having converted many firearms to full auto with registered drop in auto sears back in the day, not to mention slotted UZI bolts, it is the function of recoiling gun parts (or the whole gun in the case of bump stocks)that causes full auto capability. The part of the law that is relevant is that you are modifying the gun to fire more than one shot when the trigger is pulled. Whether you hold the stock tight for semi or loose for full auto is the same as changing a selector which can be easily demonstrated.

I have no use for a bump-stock. But outlawing them is a dick move. It accomplishes nothing practical. It does, however, cheese of the conservative grass roots base. Bad move, POTUS.

with bump stock each pull results in one shot. one shot per function of the trigger. you know that.

Very practical for the incremental gun grabbers. Adds to the precedent of arbitrary rule reversals, allowing congress to avoid responsibility, and twisting literal words of the law.

It is the worst case of Trump shooting from the hip (so to speak).

It is not being opposed the same way it would be had it come from Clinton.

Bad.

And people intent on evil will just make “lightning links” with 10 bucks worth of “parts” from Lowes or Home Depot.
Stupid “ban” this one.

/note: I don’t like bump stocks. inaccurate and a waste of ammo. What probably saved more lives at Vegas is a bump stock being used.

I believe you are incorrect there. Even holding it “loose” it is still one shot per one trigger pull. Completely different from a sear.
