” your car could be talking to the government @AP finds global automakers send real-time electric vehicle data to monitoring centers.”

Keep your old car. USE CASH. Problem solved.

"In the US, the AP reminds readers, the government would have to get a court order to access the information, and only in specific situations where probable cause exists of a crime."

"...a court order to access the information..." legally.

Who else would be able to access the information illegally?

Curbstoners.

Those are guys who find a car that is officially wrecked, buy it, fix it, have it declared as a rebuild, then sell the rebuilt car, pocketing the difference.

Know what happens if you try that with a Tesla..?

The rebuilt car will not be supported. No consultations, no covered repairs, you cannot even use the RECHARGERS..!

You rebuild the car, then you cannot recharge it other than at home.

The new biz model is like Apple —you can BUY it but are forbidden to do your own repairs. It’s almost like you are RENTING it.

Additional surveillance is collected by anyone who has an android (Google) cellphone.
If it isn't Google directly demanding your location, many of the phone apps want your location information as well.
Privacy is quickly becoming an anachronism.

"OnSTAR, no need to press that little blue button. We already know where you are and where you've been..."

I’m so damned sick of the news coming from the car companies nowadays...and I live just outside of Detroit! I used to think that I would always be a “car guy” but now I don’t know. Can you just imagine jamming to songs about your autonomous and electric vehicle as you ride along with the top and windows up? Oh boy, I can’t wait! /sarc

We’re already tracked in several ways, starting with license plate cameras (which are very high quality), transponders, which are interrogated all over the place, not just on toll roads, and, of course, cell phones.

Like it or not, the days of privacy are over because most people didn’t give a damn when there was time to speak up.
