President Trump on Wednesday threatened to declassify documents related to the Russia investigation that he claimed would be damaging to Democrats if they decide to investigate him when they take control of the House next year.
Trump's comments, made in an interview with The New York Post, come two months after he walked back his original plans to declassify and publicly release the documents as a result of concerns from U.S. allies and his own Justice Department.
If they want to play tough, I will do it, Trump told the Post. They will see how devastating those pages are.
He suggested that the documents would serve as a counter punch to Democrats if they choose to investigate him.
If they want to go and harass the president and the administration, I think that would [be] the best thing that could happen to me because Im a counter puncher and I will hit them so hard, theyve never been hit like that, he said. You know what? I think that will help my campaign. That will be the beginning of my campaign as president.
The White House announced in September that Trump had ordered the declassification of the documents, which include surveillance warrant applications on former campaign adviser Carter Page and text messages related to the Russia investigation from former FBI Director James Comey and other officials.

Absolutely. I've noticed that for a while, now.
I have a question.
What have you done to DRAIN THE FARGING SWAMP locally ?
I don’t know why people don’t like this. While it’s possible that Trump could’ve saved some House seats with this, maybe not. And certainly Manafort might not be be rotting in a jail cell, but in the big picture, better that this comes out at a time and place of the President’s choosing.
I don't think they are anti-Trump. They were impatient about everything from the beginning, not realizing that the RINOs and Dems would have impeached Trump for firing Sessions, Rosenstein and Mueller a year or more ago. There are a couple problems with the release of the data and the counterattack, but the main one is complexity. He would fire Mueller quite justifiably, but nobody would understand why.
Many documents have already been released and we know what the "classified" redacted portions say. They say that there were secret informants in the Trump campaign. They say that Halper, Mifsud and others were secret double agents in the war against Russian meddling. We know the names and roles because their names and stories were published in the NYT and elsewhere, by accident. Back then nobody at the NYT would believe that fat bozos like Halper and Mifsud could be secret agents. Of course they were mainly just deep state peripherals.
In short, we already know almost everything. Trump can't reveal very much new and damaging info in that regard. But he may have more info on Mark Warner, my stupid senator. He will have more on Clinton pal Downer and other embarassments. The complexity will go over 90% of the American public's heads. But it will hit many Dem elite like a ton of bricks.
DJT can more effectively reveal what he knows to key people, then get support for an investigation from them in some very informal plea deals.
OK by me.I want him to READ the documents live on TV.
Sounds nice, but the only way Trump will get agreement on a legitimate investigation on the deep state antics is by cutting deals for a few wrist slaps and maybe small fines.
There is ultimately only one rule of law and the rule of law is not the Trump tribunal.
Makes sense. The deep state is complex and it would help to get more politicians on board. Why politicians? That's because ultimately Congress has to clean up the mess, the executive branch can only do so much.
Agreed. If you threaten, you must be prepared to carry it out. But I don’t think this is really a threat, more like laying the groundwork.
As I see it, he has no choice but to unseal the documents and bring on a special prosecutor to investigate the HRC campaign and collusion with domestic and foreign government agencies. Indeed, if the House is involved tie the Awan Brothers conspiracy into it. We deserve to know whether the Awan issue is related to the DNC and Sec of State data weaknesses.
Susan Rice’s Jan 20, 2017 email is a smoking gun. She writes that on Jan 5 she met with Obama, Comey, and a few others from the DOJ to discuss Russian/Trump investigation. Unlike Watergate which unfolded slowly in a period longer than 2 years - this memo shows us right away that the conspiracy reaches right into the Obama Oval Office. It doesn’t prove Obama guilty, but it proves that the WH, the DNI, the DOJ, and the FBI were all actively involved. Of course there is a ton of other evidence but this takes it right to the top - not a lot of room for deniability. Susan Rice was trying to give Obama exculpatory evidence but in so doing she drags him right into the mix.
So a special prosecutor is the only answer. DOJ cannot investigate itself. Release the info the public and let the chips fall where they may. Let the SP investigate and his grand jury testimonies can remain sealed until trials.
The art of the deal. I have no idea what Trump has, but given the unhinged reactions of Brennan, Comey, and Clapper, past and recent, Trump appears to hold all the cards. One can only hope that Trump uses them to the best effect.
We have an imminent IG report coming out on the Russia investigation and FISA abuse. Flynn will be sentenced next month. Huber testifies before Congress on Dec 5. Nunes and Goodlatte will be releasing their committee reports before the Dems take over. Mueller may be releasing his report in the not too distant future. Whitaker is now overseeing Mueller. Sessions is gone and Rosenstein is probably not far behind. Lots of balls in the air.
Let Trump be Trump.
Threats don’t do much when you are dealing with seasoned criminals like ones in Congress. Either this Coup is put down or they will win in the end.
It will be squashed by the Enemedia. The Wagging Dog Patrol will launch major diversions - shootings by right wing whackos, racist rants by Republicans, on and on and on to squash the damning evidence. In the words of the wonderful Margaret Hamilton (in character) These things must be done delicately or you hurt the spell!
Good maybe this will lead Herr Müller to commit suicide at the Fuhrerbunker.
Right. It’s just a matter of time when the crooked SC team of angry democrats finds a patsy in some miniscule way aquainted with Trump, a family member, friend, barber, doorman, whomever, that has a price to go along with a made-up charge in exchange for Soros,DC, or Manhatten $$$. See Bernie’s cottages on the Beach. Trump will then explain detail how the whole affair was a corrupt plan first from the RNC, then Hillary, accompanied by rogues in the FBI, Justice, CIA, other countries, - treasonous bunch. Will have to be announced as arrests take place in all of the former dens. A day of wolves. Don’t waste it and give the NYT, Wapo, NPR, BBC, and CNN 2 months to “explain” it all
Before HFD. Horse Face Day. Make newly elected Dems and Establishment RNC types afraid to critical of the president or ever mention Russia, again. Rrrrrr
Why not before the election that just took place?
Just f*&$ing do it already.
Concurring bump...but lets see what the new and improved Senate can do for him.
No, what I mean is what 90% of his supporters say he has promised to do and hasnt done yet, namely I will declassify the documents, we will fire the people like Obama holdovers, we will shutdown the govt to get the funding, we will change immigration policy, maybe I will have the military build the wall, Clinton should be investigated, the Obama scandals should lol be investigated, how about the fisa warrants, etc etc etc.
There are many things he has the power to do that he has not done. People naturally wonder why he hasnt done things that he alone has the power to do.
So you dont need to lecture us on the one thing he is doing.
Wrong again,
Schumer says they are holding to the 1.5 bill in the budget bill already.
Where did you hear that Hillary is testifying?
